Refillable mug question at WDW - is it true?

This couple at church told us today that they were told by a bus driver that you could re-use your WDW mugs on every trip you take, year after year. I think the bus driver didn't know what he was talking about.:confused3

This is how you can do this.

Pack your old mug and a hammer in your checked luggage. When you get to WDW go to your resort and buy the new mug. Get out the hammer and smash it to smitherines. Throw it in the trash and then fill your old mug.

It would work for me but it is NOT going to work for my DH at all! He is a big guy and especially when we've had a day in the HOT weather, the minute we get back to the resort he gets a drink in his refillable mug and chug a lugs the whole thing. Then he refills immediately and drinks that one leisurely while we wait on our food. When the food arrives, he will get another refill at some point before we go back to our room.

sigh -- I'm anxious to see how Disney thinks this is working....

The good news is that water is not limited. There is still a water spot at the refill area, and you can drink all the water you want to. It is only the soda that is limited to 4 an hour. Honestly, if you are out in the hot sun, soda will just dehydrate you more. Water is better. I am a huge soda addict, so even while I type that I'm thinking yeah, sure:rolleyes: to myself.

I just think it is sad that Disney has to resort to sensor chips and 4 an hour limits. But so many people think nothing of filling other containers with soda, or buying one mug for their whole family that they have to do something. Who knows, maybe Disney will decide the chips are more a pain than they are worth and go back to the chip free mugs.

I liked collecting the mugs, and about every 2 years they would redesign each resort mug.

It used to be the average visitor would return once every 5 years. So really, by old theory, 1 person using 1 mug for 1 week every 5 years isn't a lot of soda. As long as that one person remembered their mug.

Well then came in resales of used mugs on ebay. The locals. The regular repeat visitors making more trips. That wasn't too bad. And implimented end of your stay mug.

Now it's down to the cheapskates. Buying one mug for one family. Buying a used mug for 99 cents at a Goodwill.

But I still don't understand the reasoning behind 1 style mug, other than to cut costs on a few dollar mug. At least with resort specific mugs it was easier to know when and where you got it.

I think it's only 4 times an hour...so 15 mins between refills, but I'm not sure. :)

I didn't pay that close attention to it. I'm sure the info is on the Resorts board for anyone willing to look for it. :)

Yup, this will NOT go over with my DH either. He will often down an entire glass while at the station, then refill it before walking away. (No, he doesn't stand in the way while he drinks his first glass...)

I understand the idea behind it, but you can't really "limit" something that is "unlimited" right? How can they say you can "enjoy unlimited refills" if you are limited to 4 refills per hour:confused3.

I'm at work now, so I don't have the link handy. When I was home, I couldn't find this thread :rotfl:

The "four refills per hour" cap applies to the single cups, not the mugs. The chip has the same five minute limitation as the refillable mugs (vs. once every fifteen minutes) but the chip in these cups expires one hour after first being used.

No "one refill every fifteen minutes" restriction on anything.

We actually had a bus driver tell us this a few years ago, of course we knew it wasn't true. There were even signs at one time in your room that said "length of stay".

Oh the Disney Bus Drivers...

Sources of such useful information as "the never ending monorail expansion", "Disney is not going to serve Coke as it's not healthy" and so on.

Anything said to you by a Disney Bus Driver should be taken with a large does of doubt. They are great men and women with over active imaginations :) .

:)

Is the tea limited, too or can you immediately refill? I have chosen a flavor at Disney and it not quite taste right, so then poured out and gotten another. I would not be happy if I had to wait.

And have you ever gotten a drink out of the fountain, taken a sip and it was horrible because that particular drink was out of syrup? I hope they keep up with the syrup levels.

I think it would be great if they just sold barcodes for those of use who don't want any more mugs. I had 16 of the same mug in my cabinet. I threw half of them away and I still have too many.

I think people just like to throw the bus driver's under the bus. Pun intended.

well thats good---I guess. I need new mugs anyhow. I think I have used mine all most everyday since our last trip (its looking a little sad):lmao:
