Refillable Drink Mugs?

I don't get the whole "OMG, you horrible people!!!" when it comes to these mugs. I've seen mugs in use that hardly have any design left on them they're so old, this year in particular.

The CM's are clearing tables near and helping people who are holding the illicit mug and no one says a word. Probably because in the grand scheme of things, it's a small % of people who do this. I mean really, does anyone run from resort to resort to fill up mugs and squeeee because they're "stickin' it to the man?" I doubt it.

We stayed at CBR and took our mug with us when we ate dinner at the POR food court. They all look alike this year anyway.

See, here's the thing....Disney 'used' to have resort specific refill. mugs. It made it easy for resort CM's to see who was 'abusing' the free refills by using old mugs at a new and different resort. Yeah, like that ever happened...CMs just plain out didn't care. Now...Disney comes along with the new, improved refill mugs. They are generic. Now the mugs say, and I quote..."Free refills at our resort beverage islands until the end of the stay in which the mug was purchased." So, that would lead me to believe that Disney has no issue with us traveling from resort to resort, filling up wherever we choose. Bring it back? No, they don't want that to happen, but because it's the exact same design for '08 as it was for '07, who can tell when it was purchased? Disney obviously doesn't really care all that much.

So, that brings me to use of the refill mugs in the parks. This is what we have done...completely legal. We take our cleaned out mugs with us, to the park. Then, when we got lunch, or dinner, we put any leftover soda in our mugs, rather than leaving it go to waste, unfinished. Works quite nicely.

Hear, hear, just what i was about to say.

My thoughts exactly! :thumbsup2

I think they just decided to give this one extra perk to their resort guests - otherwise why change the wording when the mug design was changed? For that matter, why make all the resort mugs look the same?

I've seen people post "But the sign says..." I just don't think WDW would spend the money to change all those signs

This also helps keep your beverages cold...like if you order a beer in one of those flismy Solo cups at Epcot. I just pour it into my mug and it stays chilled until I finish it.

I've also heard of people asking for a cup of ice at a CS location (free), dumping it into their mug, and filling with water. You can refill on the same cup of ice a couple of times.

Thanks Diane!

This was probably one of the few mug threads that that was really needed!

We just got back from WDW the 3rd of Feb and this is what we were told by CMs--and we must've asked at least four, including 2 managers, one @ POFQ and one @ BCMarketplace.

It makes good sense, probably saves WDW some $$ on the cup manufacturing & design ends.
Maybe even enough to make up for the beverages swigged by all the slugs using those ancient, design bleached mugs! :rotfl2:

You haven't seen these threads on here before?

Pretty much whenever anyone posts that it is OK to refill the mugs at a location other than where it was purchased a moderator posts a photo of the mug program sign from one of the resorts and locks the thread.

It doesn't matter to the mug police what the CMs told you...they are the arbitors of the mug program on the DIS, not actual WDW CMs.

Nope, I guess I'm a newbie to the mug police....only World War 3's I've been exposed to on here are the Tipping Monsters & the Evil Signature Restaurants for Adults-Only Dragons.....arrghh!! :scared1:

Hope I didn't open a big ole can of worms! Oh well, that's just silly for anyone to complain. I understand the not using resort mugs in parks thing & reusing mugs during future years, but as a previous poster said, if WDW wanted to continue to enforce the home resorts only rule, they obviously wouldn't have created generic looking mugs for all resorts.

The water parks do have a refillable mug. It has a barcode that you scan at the drink station, and it allows you unlimited refills for that day only. However, I have read other threads that say you can purchase a new barcode and use the same mug on other days.

Is anyone else as excited as I am about the refillable mugs/bottles at Animal Kingdom Park?

I think it's fantastic! For me Animal Kingdom is my most dehydrating park. This is a very good thing. :thumbsup2

We just bought this last week during our trip-we thought it was well worth it!!
It was so hot that day and cold lemonade really did the trick. :thumbsup2 The sports bottles are SO much bigger than the resort mugs!

Typhoon lagoon and BB also have a mug you can purchase - good only at that park for that day though.
