Refillabe cups..are they worth it??

IF you drive and are able to go to Publix, use that refillable mug money to buy your favorite drinks and water. You will have enough money left over for some snacks, too. And you won't have to leave your room to get them, either.

If you switch resorts during your visit (resort hopping) do you have to buy a refillable mug for each resort or can you use the mug you just purchased at the other resort?? :confused3

Be careful asking that question. I asked the exact same question before my split stay in May and got my first ever flame on this board. :rotfl2: Seriously though, the policy is that the mug is good for the length of your stay 'at that resort'. People like us who like doing split stays would need to buy a mug at each resort. Sorry!

It's no secret though and often a hot topic on these boards, that people will fill anything at those refill stations i.e. old resort mugs, water bottles, paper cups, popcorn buckets, and someone even mentioned seeing someone fill a plastic bag one time. Of course, we all know that's illegal and no Disers would ever do that  .

The mugs aren't worth it for my family, we buy one that may get filled 3 times. Do you carry those mugs to the park with you? That's my biggest complaint who wants to carry the mugs?

We drink our coffee on the way to the park so yes we take them with us, but my DH also wears a back-pack that has 2 mesh side pockets that hold the empty drink cups just fine. I have also heard that people buy clips that attach to their belt loops? I would guess if you don't carry anything at all to the parks, then carrying mugs WOULD be a pain.

In my opinion the mugs are worth it. We pretty much used ours quite frequently and payed for themselves by the second or third day.

I dont think it is worth it unless you hang out at the food court alot.
I would buy one if you could pay a small amount to have it filled in the parks too. I know I am going to get a alot of heat for this one...but has anyone every thought of having a mug swap? You know leave your mug for the next folks!!! LOL :rotfl: :rotfl2:

If you visit your resort's food court enough they do save you money but...

We were at the CBR and our room was at the far end of the resort from the food court. Our typical morning was a beautiful walk down the the food court for breakfast and then we jumped on a bus and head out to the parks. But unless we made a trip back to our room, we had to carry the cups for the entire day (or have them take up a big part of our family backpack).

On the plus side they are very nice cups, I use them for travel coffee mugs almost every day.

When we were there in 2002 we got one from Polynesian. We used it but the best part is I still have it and use it for coffee when I go to work switching off between that one and the one I got on our Disney cruise last year. They're great souvenirs. I'm reminded of Disney every day :goodvibes
I plan to get another when I go back again:flower:To us they're worth it :)

Okay this will be my "admitting I am a lush at WDW" reply, but here goes. If you get one then in the evening while the kiddies swim you can go to the food court put your coke in and then put a little of your own liquor in. Way cheaper than ordering drinks from the pool bar (but hey we do that too). DH and I love our Malibu and Cokes after a long day in the parks! And we always use our mugs at home so at least you get to reuse it at home after the fact!

This is our first time but we plan on getting them. There are 5 of us. I figure if only 2-3 drinks per day they will be worth it and we all have a nice souvenier.

Last year we both got the mugs. This year I think we will just get one. I have been trying to cut back on the soda. Mostly drinking water with the crystal light packs added.

Ok, this will be a new thing for us, too. We're staying at POR 9/27-10/4. What exactly does the beverage station at POR have? Any limits on the drinks you can put in these mugs? How big are they? Anyone have a pic of them? :earboy2: :earboy2: :earboy2:

I think the mugs are selling for $12.95 ( I could be off by a buck either way ) so you would need to refill them at least 6 times - $2 a drink - before you break even. This isn't that hard to do, but if your plans are to be away from the resort most of the time, you should figure out if this will work for you.

Good luck & have a great trip!

Great idea.

You mean bring your refillable mugs with you at a full service dining? Hmmm... I just can't imagine my family bringing the refill mugs at a nice restaurants at GF. It looks kind of tacky, doesn't it? Well.. at least I think so.

I think she meant to fill the mug at the food court and grab a bottled water as your cs drink. Then use your mug at the meal and take your bottled water to the park with you.
That was my understanding.

Just 66 more days

I used to be a person that said the mugs were not worth it, but on my last trip - I saved a fortune! We bought 2 mugs for a family of 4.

I am the early riser in the family. While staying at BWV, I got up each morning by 6am and went to the small bakery inside of the Boardwalk (can't think of the name) and got myself a nice cup of coffee and enjoy some peace and quiet. Then, I would get 2 more coffees to go. I would bring my husband 2 cups of coffee and head back for another 2 cups for myself. Then my DH would stop for another cup on the way out - so 6 cups of coffee each morning would have been about $12!

Then each afternoon at the pool, we would re-fill the mugs with soda for our girls - usually 1-2 times. The mugs paid for themselves in 2 days. But for us, it was the "coffee factor"! :rotfl2:

Plus - I will admit, I love picking out which Disney mug to take to work each morning - I have BC, BW, AKL, Port Orleans, and WL. :flower:

We definitely get our money's worth and have a great coffee-to-go-mug to use at home. We will be buying another four in the fall.

Great idea about ordering a bottled water at the food court. Thanks.

Just a cute story, We go to the free movies on Wed at the AMC, we were with friends who just got back from POP, in the elevator the kids each had a POP century mug, they must thave filled them and brought them to the movie, we asked them if they just got back, NOPE they were there last year, so it was nice to see them still using them.

We will have a car and stop at Wal Mart but I think we will still buy at least 2, kids prefer juice boxes and propel.

I like the way you think! :drinking1

We used ours all the time when we stayed at POP the last time. We would use them in the morning before we left and then when we came back we would have several drinks in the evening. It was definitely worth the money for us.

I don't feel that I come out ahead. I usually end up buying drinks to keep at the resort, especially now with the refrigerators. I only buy a mug if I want it as a souvenir.
