I am from the UK. Currently at BLT. We had 4 nights booked at Vero beach 31st to the 4th but have had a call from member services saying they have Red tide and we can cancel if want to. I’ve googled it doesn’t sound much fun. What would you do ? My options seem to cancel and book and either stay with DVC in Orlando or book a hotel near a beach without Red tide. We could just chance it at Vero although we wouldn’t have beach access. Please give me your thoughts on how you would act.

The last test dates I can find are for 10/24 for Indian River county. Check out the link below. While hardly "official", it appears our cool front that came in here in the central FL area is pushing the red tide away. I'm hopeful! :cutie:

How long ago did MS call you? The link I posted above is from 2 days ago. As I note in my post above the last tests I can find for red tide in Indian River County were done on the 24th. We had a cool front move in that has been blowing the red tide out and away from the shoreline from many reports.

There are 2 different threads on the DVC Resorts Forum about red tide at Vero. One is titled Vero Beach Red Tide or similar. The other comments are on the Vero Beach Adoration thread.

FL Fish & Wildlife Conservation's site has official postings but tests are only done every few days. If you go to that site, there is a "Daily Samples Map", that will show color coded dots, but it is IMPERATIVE you click on the dots to see when the last test was actually done. It is in this manner that I found that the last tests for Indian River County/Vero Beach were done 5 days ago.

I live in SW Florida on an island on the Gulf Coast. We've had Red Tide all summer and it made going to the beach awful. We spent almost no time at the beach this summer. The red tide affects your respiratory system and makes you cough. If you have asthma or some other respiratory condition, it could even be life threatening at time. Plus the horrid smell of dead fish on the beach. Even if they are cleaning up the beach, it takes time and they are still floating in the water. Ours is gone now with Hurricane Michael (about that time) except for areas north of us on the west coast of Florida. Hopefully, it will be gone soon on the East coast.

You guys have had a much worse year than usual for the gulf side. :sad2: It's quite unusual for red tide to impact the Atlantic side, and certainly not so far north. The video footage shown taken in yesterday and the day before in Indian River county look very promising. Hopefully it goes away and stays away from both coasts! ::yes::

As I understand it there was a test done today. However the results will not be known till tomorrow. I’m going to call them direct and see how the test turned out. If anyone is at the resort please let me know how the air quality is I’d appreciate it.
