Do you recycle stuff?

I cant remember if we had this question before or not - so forgive me if I am repeating info here - but wondered how many of us recycle.

I have to admit that we never recycled much at all at our old house - and that is quite shameful really, when I think of the amount of rubbish we used to put out for the dustmen each week!

So - one of my new initiatives when moving was to become more environmentally friendly and recycle as much as possible - the theory that we have the space to keep it and I should have the time.

So what I would be interested to know is what do you recycle - how far can I take this?

We have ordered a Water Butt from Mid Suffolk Council to collect rain water to water the plants and gardens, we are on a water meter here and I am not sure if it would save us any money to have a water butt. We are also waiting for a composter that is being offered by the council.

Any thoughts and tips would be very gratefully received.

... I think we have done this before, but why not do it again :) ?
I have recycled papers for some time now by taking them to the collection points in the town, but recently we've been given a kerbside paper collection which is great ( we've been provided with a plastic container which is emptied every fortnight) - saves the hassle of lugging carrier bags full of papers over in the car.
We also take glass to the collection points, and I'm really pleased that Tesco have finally installed a plastic carrier bag recycling collection point outside our local store.

We have a brown bin and a green bin for normal waste and recycling pastics, paper etc. We also take our glass to the bottle bank :D

I'm really lucky where i live not only do the dustmen come once a week but we have a second bunch of very nice people who come along and collect all the things we put in out green recycling box.

I think in right in saying that they collect the following..
Paper (news papers, old yellow pages or phone books... but not glossy paper)
Glass (bottles jars etc)
Tins (both steel and aluminium)
Cardboard (Like from pizza boxes etc)
Tin Foil (eg Chinese take away dishes or the little foil dishes cakes come in)
Cloth (old clothes towels etc)

Dont know how or what they do with half that stuff... but hey any thing to help!

We also have a compost bin and a water butt!

Hope this helps and Good luck with your recycling!!

I really wish we had a kerb-side collection for recycling :(

Our Tesco and Sainsbury both have facilites for recycling, but it's so annoying that they are positioned in such a way that you can't access them on the way in, only on the way out - which means that I would have to leave all the recycling stuff in the car, do the shopping, put the shopping bags in the boot and then drive to the recycling place to unload it all. Sorry, but that just makes it too difficult to be attractive!

We also have a local council run 'amenity site' (dump to you and me ;) ) which also accepts most items, but it's scheduled to close at the end of this month :(
