Counting down the days until our trip to DL - exactly 1 week from today, we'll be there! However, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas, suggestions, or information on running at DL. I'm not looking for anything organized. I just want to go for a run in the morning and would rather avoid the treadmill. Could I run through DTD? How long is it from the bag check to DLH? Does GCH (where we are staying) have a track or path of some sort I could do this on?

I know we'll be getting a lot of walking in so I don't have to run, but I'd like to.:rolleyes1

Thanks for any suggestions or ideas you may have!

They won't let you run in DTD. Someone once posted a map of a 5k route they made on streets around the resort. I think it was on Mouseplanet, because they have a running forum over there.

They will let you run through DTD as long as you do it before they close the Esplanade for the security/bag check stations. Once it's closed it's off limits.

The "loop" around Disneyland (Harbor to Katella to Disneyland Drive to Ball to Harbor) is approx. 3 miles. I've run this loop multiple times and never felt unsafe. There are almost always other runners out doing their runs, too.

You did not mention where you were staying (or I missed it). We were there in 2010 and we are heading back in 3 weeks. The run that I enjoyed was to leave the Californian hotel and take a right, run under downtown Disney and then take a left into the parking lot for Disneyland hotel and then run towards that hotel, this is Downtown Drive. It will bring you past the Disneyland hotel and to a rotary next to Paradise Pier hotel. Run back out to the Californian and take a right to South West Street/Disneyland Drive and head to W Katella. Once you get to W Katella take a left and run around California Adventure until you get to Harbor Blvd where you will take a left. Run down Harbor until you hit the main entrance on your left. Depending how early it is you will be able to run past the parks and through downtown Disney. Unfortunately I did not have my GPS watch to track distance but it should be about 3 miles in total and it is a very safe area.

This.

I looked into this a few years ago and came across the same thing. Here is a running map of that loop:

I haven't done that in years. it seems like we usually stay up late, so a run before breakfast doesn't work anymore.

I used to run around the entire park. it made a big difference when the resort landscaping went in. most of the way there is some separation between the sidewalk and the street traffic.

gang members aren't generally out and about at 6 or 7 am. This is ridiculous. U will be fine

I disagree, this is not ridiculous. Criminals are stupid and do stupid and brazen things, regardless of what time of day it is or where you are.

I'm also a runner, I would not feel comfortable running in the area.

Hardly scientific but you can use the link as a rough gauge to compare your home town to Anaheim. Crime rates are below ave for US cities. APD is notorious for enforcement in the resort area. The are even court approved gang injunctions zones established where the slightest hint of gang activity, such as loitering or displays of gang affiliation, is enough cause for police action. Like any city, there are neighborhoods that a late night stroll is not the best idea, but to suggest that the entirety of the City of Anaheim is less than safe is inaccurate.

I run the 4 streets that surround the resort before and/or after work (ball, Katella, disney way, and harbor) and it's almost exactly three miles, for what it's worth. Never have any problems wether I run by myself or with a buddy at 6am, or even 11 pm.

Do you use mapmyrun? Its an app and people can save routes they have ran or plan on running. You can even go online before you arrive and plan a route. I use this when I travel to see where people usually run and plan my routes.

Oh, honestly, the area around Disneyland is perfectly safe, as is Anaheim in general. I always shake my head at the postings here talking about how "unsafe" the area is. Nothing at all supports this idea, and Disney as a company would not allow this to happen as it would discourage tourists. If you aren't safe in these areas at the same time many tourists and CMs are making their way in to the parks for RD, then you aren't safe at all.

I plan on running when we are there, and the loop around the parks is what I plan to use. I'm a woman who will be by myself, and I have no concerns about my safety at 6am. Of course, I run around 9pm-10pm here at home, so I tend to be in the camp of be aware, be vigilant, and don't be stupid, but also don't live your life in fear.

There will also be plenty of other people out doing the same run.
