Recording Characters

When I was there in 2015 I was recording the meet and greet with Elsa and Anna with my smartphone without a Flash and I was told by a cast member I was not allowed to do that so I stopped. However in planning for my upcoming trip I'm noticing a lot of videos on YouTube which are clearly recorded meet and greets in which the character knows they are being recorded. Is there some kind of difference between characters outside in the Parks versus the ones that you wait in line for? What is the policy for videoing the characters.?

I know of no policy against video, have done it myself countless times. Sounds like you got a rogue CM.

Were you recording your party or was it all around and some interaction with others. I could see that making a difference if it wasn't clearly your party.

But that said, I don't know what the restrictions are as pictures have always been good enough for me and I've never tried to video anything.

I've never had any issues with recording characters. I'm going with you got a power hungry character handler. There's no rules about video

Thanks. There was definitely no one else in the shot. I'm glad to know it's not against the rules because the few seconds I got of the interaction were really cute. I'll try again this coming April

Nobody stopped me from recording using a DSLR, so it was obvious what I was doing, after my family met & photographed with the characters, one of the CM usually gestures me to join in on the photos.

There's absolutely no issue in recording, no. I've seen dozens of parents filming their kids running up to a princess and no one ever batted an eyelid.

I don't record very often, if I do it's normally a quick video for a friend. Like getting Cheshire Cat in Paris to wave Happy Birthday or something. Sometimes the CMs watching the characters have even helped me explaining them. Cat fur makes it hard to hear sometimes, especially when the person talking to you has a weird accent like me.

If you were recording during someone else's meet and greet, the CM has no idea whether you have other guests in your shot or are zoomed just on the character. I have heard reports of them asking guests not to record in those circumstances. I have seen them purposely step in front of someone's camera when it's not their turn.

They don't do it every single time, so it's very much YMMV. I have to say I'm not fond of others photographing or recording our interaction.

The issue is not photographing/recording. The issue is doing so during someone else's interaction.

Nobody has an issue with you recording your group's interaction.

Occasionally a CM will take issue with someone filming someone else's interaction.

She said nobody else was in her shot. I read that as her framing the shot so nobody was in it. That doesn't mean it wasn't during someone else's interaction.

sorry if i was unclear. I meant no one besides my nieces were in the shot. I tried to upload the video but it is too large, but she says "you are going to have to stop that recording"
