This year I managed to forget my mother's birthday. Then I booked our WDW trip so that she's traveling home early in the morning on Mother's day. I'd like to redeem myself by taking her out for a nice steak dinner while we're on property. She doesn't like dry-aged beef though (it tastes gamey to her), so what's the best non-dry-aged beef on property? We're not on the dining plan, so we don't need to worry about who takes it or how many credits the meal is. Ideally I'd like it to be someplace that I can get a custom dessert (like the slipper or a cake) special ordered, but I'm fairly flexible on that.

We just got back from Disney and my husband ate steak the entire time. California Grill was tops to him. They also have wonderful desserts and I'm sure you could order a cake.

I'm a steak eater, too, and on our last trip (we used the dining plan), surprisingly the best steak I had all week was at the Kona Cafe.

Yachtsman Steakhouse is very high on the list. I feel, though, that Shula's is the best.

We had Kona as well and my mother said that the steak from Kona had the best taste but was not as tender as California Grill. We also ate at Concourse and it was okay, had awesome desserts.

Are you talking about Mothers Day this year (2006)? You better work on getting a reservation.

Hi, I know you asked for a steakhouse on site but really you should not miss the opportunity to try a steak at Charley's Steakhouse on International Drive. They are absolutely superb and have a varied choice of cuts to choose from. It is one of the top ten steakhouses in the USA, I travel from UK just to eat there! No seriously I have never tasted a better steak and when ever we are on holiday we make sure that we visit there at least once.

We enthusiastically second the recommendation of Charley's (there's also one on 192 in Kissimmee that is usually less crowded than the one on I-Drive). Best steak anywhere, hands down; although we admittedly have not made it to Shula's yet.

We've brought many people to Charley's and they all have walked away agreeing that it was one of the best (if not THE best) steaks they've ever had.

No, we leave on Mother's day (around 7am)... We'll be at WDW from April 30-May14th, ADRs haven't been very hard to get. And I did call today to pick up an ADR for Concourse (I think that California Grill wouldn't be her style and we got really awful food at Kona last time) and got my first pick of times.

I'll look into Charley's. I'd asked for onsite because my mother has allergies, and I know onsite can handle it - but steakhouses are generally pretty safe. I'll give them a call soon and see if they'd be comfortable. Thanks for the suggestion!

They don't have a lot of information on their website - what kind of price range is it in, and are they relatively child-friendly? We have two (well behaved) toddlers and would rather not take them somewhere they'd be unwelcome.

Shula's is easily the best steak house on premises from A to Zinc, but IMO, the single best steak is the Charred NY Strip at Flying Fish. Had it again last week and Mmmmmmmm! Also, the Filet at Jiko is so tender that they don't even give you a steak knife (not necessary) and lastly another specific standout is the buffalo steak at Artist Point. Just as good as beef but leaner. Absolutely no waste on this steak.

Not many reviews on Yachtsmen. I was plannng on this one. Anyone else with experiences here???

Sorry to Hijack the thread...Sue

My two cents...Yachtsman.

Great atmosphere and selection of cuts. Absolutely will not go wrong with this choice. If she doesn't like it here, you can blame me! We make it a point to try to go on every trip and have never been let down.

Enjoy! :thumbsup2

We have eaten at the Yachtsman Steakhouse every single trip since they opened in 1991. We would not dream of skipping it. The food is very good as is the service.

Other places for a great steak are Flying Fish, Calif Grill and Jiko.

I'd like to put in a vote for Yachtsman too. I think the quality of food and service, as well as the atmosphere would be an ideal choice for you and your mother. You can even watch the butcher carve the cuts of meat before you're seated... It's very impressive.

My husband had steak a few times on our last trip and by far the best was Jiko. he also liked his steak at Kona Cafe and I had a great stead a bluezoo. Odd that I order stead at a mainly seafood restaurant but it was great.

For steak....

Charlie's if your willing to go "off-site"

On-site:

Shula's or Yachtsman are excellent choices. I perfer the atmosphere @ Yachtsman, my husband (*an avid Dolphin fan), much prefers Shula's....

So there you go. In any case they are all EXPENSIVE, but the steaks are supreme!

Please note: They use a certain type of wood - I don't know what it is, in Orlando that you either LOVE or HATE to have your steak cooked on. Please ask, as I'm not a great fan of this taste, but my husband is. My favorite steak was at Port Orleans Riverside @ Boatwrights, it was great...but my husband disagrees as he loves this flavor and insists that Charlie's is the BEST!

Enjoy!

This is not a steak idea, but just FYI - Epcot does have the Mother's Day Brunch on Saturday as well, if you'd like to try that. We went to it on Saturday last year and it was BY FAR the best meal we had while there. You can see this year's menu on allearsnet.com. Just a thought.
