I am looking after my mid-20's DD on my own now and need some respit services in two different situations.

Situation 1: 2 to 3 hours or so 3 to 4 times a week in the evenings

Situation 2: Overnight for consecutive days when I have to travel out of town.

I'd appreciate hearing of organizations which are trained, certified (what ever that means) professional and see their clients as people rather than a way to make money.

Thank you very much for your suggestions,
Dan

I'm not in Toronto area, but there's a group called Vita Community Services ( http://www.vitacls.org/vita/vita/htmlversion/ ) that works with adults with developmental disabilities on independent living. I know your daughter is a wheelchair user, but they may be a good group to initially contact and see if they know anything out there that would work for you. I know about Vita because of a guy named Dave Hingsburger who works there (I think as a consultant) and who blogs about a range of disability issues and is a relatively big name in the world of self-directed care and training for both staff and people with disabilities. Everything I know about Vita suggests that they're definitely within your requirements and would only send you to other organizations that also fit those requirements.

Thank you, WheeledTraveler very much. Yes, DD is also dd (developmentally delayed).

I will check them out.

Thank you so, so much.

And to others, please keep the recommendations coming.
