recommendations for converting albums to CDs/mp3s?

My husband has a lot of vinyl record albums, and I was thinking that for Father's day I could get him something that converts them to CDs/mp3s. The problem is I'm really behind the times when it comes to electronics. Can someone tell me what this device is actually called? Recommendations would be great also for particular brands etc, because I am really out of my element here.

We JUST bought one of these last night at Kohls! It's a gift for my father in law. I think it was $130.00 but we also had a 30% off coupon. I don't know the exact name, it's still in my dh's car. But someone there saw us with it and said they bought it over xmas and it's VERY easy to use.

Another option.... I had lots of albums too. but I really only liked a few songs on each.
Hubby got me an mp3 player (shuffle) and I have been downloading songs from the albums for 99 cents each from Amazon. It's easy to do. I can use a speaker so all can hear or just use head bands for just me to hear

It is working great. I get only the songs I like from each album

We saw a turntable at Costco this wknd, that hooks straight to your computer to convert vinyl, but I don't have any experience with that kind.

However, I can definitely recommend the one we have: the Crosley "Director". It will burn a cd from vinyl or cassette, then you can upload from the cd to your computer or just play the cd. We're happily working our way through my LARGE collection of old albums and 45's. Plus, its vintage look works in our den.

We got nearly half-price at Belk a while back, but we've also seen them at Target, Sears and Kmart. Not sure if it's the same brand offered at Kohl's but the technology probably is comparable. There are several kinds, so I hope you can find one -- and quick!!-- that fits your needs and style.
