Greetings fellow nerds. I’m turning 50 and treating myself and my family to a long weekend in DW (next weekend!). Couldn’t think of anywhere else I’d rather be, although my friends think I’m nuts.

So any recommendations for this old man on special ways to celebrate his bday? Anything extra special? I’m a Disney vet, and eagerly awaiting suggestions. Thanks!!!

I've got a few years (count on one hand) until I'm 50, and I always say that I want to do one of the backstage tours to celebrate. I've never done any of them before - it would be a fun splurge!

Great suggestion Rita. I’ve avoided it to this point because, as much as I’m curious, I’m worried about ruining the magic a bit. Kind of like seeing the sausage being made.

How about the Highway in the Sky progressive dinner? Definitely a splurge, but looks incredible! You could also consider a fireworks cruise or a special tour. We did the MK fireworks tour one year and it was very special!

For my birthday last year, DH and I stayed at AKL with a savannah view. It was on my bucket list, something I've always wanted to do, but the cost of the resort room is out of my price range. HOWEVER... I rented points through a DVC owner and we did it! We weren't at Disney for an actual theme park visit, just a couple of nights, so we spent time on our balcony with the animals, out at the pool bar, wine tasting at Jiko, and just relaxing. I know this probably isn't the kind of "special event" you were thinking of, but staying at my dream resort was an absolutely perfect birthday gift for me!

Stay somewhere with Electrical Water Pageant access so you can see the weirdest, best show for minimal effort. I stayed at the Wilderness Lodge for my 40th - best price of the bunch, great EWP view from Geyser Point, and a quick boat ride to the Contemporary lets you walk to the Magic Kingdom using the easiest security line!

Getting to go to WDW at all is my 50th birthday present (as well as DS's 15th and DD's 10th and DW...ain't talking.:rolleyes1) None of our birthdays fall within the week of our trip (or even the same month) but we're celebrating anyway. 5 days in WDW and 3 days at Universal. We probably won't be able to do this together again, unless the kids are grown and pay their own way.

I just had a belated 50th celebration this past January and I got to check a huge item of my own bucket list - staying at the Grand Floridian. The GF might not be on your list but maybe draw up a list of things that, even as a veteran, you have not done- VIP tours, staying at a deluxe resort, signature dining, dessert party, etc.

Ride an amphicar, if you haven't already. It holds up to three passengers.

BTW, I like your avatar.
