recommendations for an inexpensive digital camera

we are in the market for a new camera also. My first digital was a kodak easy share and I loved it. Just told dh this morning we need a new one before christmas, so he will do some research. $150 max for us, but it sounds like I could get a good camera for that based on your recommendations. I shop black friday, so I will have to watch the deals.

I have a 5 year old Nikon Coolpix with 3.2 megapixels. I'd love a new camera, but this one still works well and takes good pictures! Dh even left it (in the case) out in the rain overnight and after a few days of drying, it works OK. The battery didn't survive the rain, but the camera isn't much worse for wear. I don't suggest leaving it in the rain, but if it gets splashed on a ride while in its case, it probably would be just fine!

Where did you get your replacement battery? I bought one for our Coolpix a few years ago at Best Buy but you couldn't buy just the battery, it came packaged with a charger, which we didn't need. I hate this battery! It only lasts for a very short time and then I need to switch batteries. The battery that came with our camera holds the charge for much longer.
