We are planning to go to the World in January, and while I am mostly sure it makes no difference, I was wondering if any resort would be more preferable than another! My son adores the pools, so perhaps avoiding resorts with really cool pools to keep him from being terribly disappointed?

TIA!

We actually just came back from Riverside, and the pool was his favorite part! I think going back would just cause confusion and sadness :/

I am not sure that I understand what you are asking. If your son adores the pools then why do you want to avoid the best ones? Is it because you are concerned that he will want to swim if the weather is cold? Couldn't you just explain that he can't go swimming when it's cold?

Really, most of the pools are kid magnets. Not sure how you could possibly avoid that one.

All the resorts have cool pools, and even though i wouldn't be in there in January, they are heated, so it's doable.

We were there last January, and we swam. We had nice weather than week, however. The pools are heated to a very enjoyable temp. I've been there in February, when it was pretty chilly. The water was wonderful, however, feeling like 'bathwater'. Just have something warm (a big fluffy towel or robe) to wrap him on for the trip back to the room from the pool.

DS has Asperger's, so unfortunately explaining you can't swim when it is cold would just result in a vacation-long meltdown!

yeah, really I am looking for resorts that have a lot of other activities besides swimming, and whose pools might not cause wails of distress! However, if they are heated...

We've done 11 January WDW vacations and have had at least one day warm enough for swimming in 9 of those. Since we are from CA, it has to be fairly warm for us and we have still managed it in 9 vacations. Of course, those other 2 weeks had temps that never got out of the 40s so there is that chance. :lmao:

How about the Contemporary, making sure to stay on the side facing toward the Magic Kingdom. There's enough hustle and bustle in that place and it's big enough he might not even be aware it has a pool. As long as he doesn't look out a window on that side.

We are going in Jan. as well, and I feel your pain. My DS6 is a real water puppy, and will want to swim. I'm hoping there will be at least an afternoon or two when we can use the pool--we're staying at the Poly, so it's tough to avoid seeing it. If you check the historical temps, you'll see that 70 degrees is a typical high--that isn't too bad. Of course, we're coming from New Hampshire, so if it's above freezing, we're in shorts.

P.S. A bigger problem for me will be the water rides! His two favorites are Kali River Rapids and Splash Mountain. I think a good soaking on those will be more of an issue for me than the pools.

Since you've stayed in Moderate before (and we don't know your budget), I'd suggest CSR. The pool is not near the main building and you could ask for a building that is not near any pool and you'll never have to pass one and those questions won't be raised. Plus the resort rooms are very comfy and I love the sliding door across the vanity area.
