I need recommendations on good chews for dogs. Bindi is chewing everything and I want to give her something that will last but isn't bad for her. I've heard Greenies and rawhide are bad for dogs. Any recommendations?

My two dogs (lab and Bernese Mtn Dog) loves these bones :

They are the 5-6 inch filled bones....They love all the flavors and you can refill them with pb or something once your pup eats the filling.

Available through:

They last a long while and are really safe (Well unless you step on one in the middle of the night)

For chewing, we like to give our Golden Retriever the non-edible Nylabones. They are flavored, just not edible. On the package they say they are for "power chewers" which he certainly is. A lot of the edible ones, especially raw hides, make him sick and end up with emergency poos in the middle of the night! Plus he can devour a large denta-bone in about 5 minutes so that's no fun.

Interesting, I have never heard anything about Greenies being bad for dogs. In fact that is the one that has been recommended to me the most.

We always give our dog a Kong. She's a black Lab and the best dog ever!!!

My two like to chew on...cats, furniture, rocks, shoes, molding.

Actually, they prefer compressed rawhide and it keeps them busy for a while. I'm curious who said that rawhide isn't good for dogs? My vet said it was OK...

Our Boston Terrier--Zippy aka the Uncatchable--once unraveled & partially swallowed one of those rawhide bones shape like a bone.
I shudder to think what would've happened if we hadn't been sitting right there when it happened. He started to gag & we had to 'pull' out the length of rawhide very carefully--it was intact, just totally unravelled!
It was a name brand, too. this happened about 2 years ago.
Needless, to say we stay away from that typwe of chew.
We did use Nylabones but I just look at the ingredients & IMHO, just stay away from that type, too.

Non-edible nylabones here too. There have been numerous reports about rawhides and greenies. WIth the greenies there is an issue about not digesting properly. Many dogs have dies or have had to had ermergency surgery. Before I knew about the danger of greeenies I tried them and one of the pugs would always have an upset stomach the next day. I had stopped buying them and then I heard about the issues with them.

Kongs are the best, we put small treats in ours and Speck will chew on it for hours!

We use a Kong too, put some peanutbutter in it, the dog is happy all day. :)
Greenies are bad for dogs, they don't digest them so they can cause blockage in the bowels. Plus, before I knew they were bad and gave them to my dog, he had the worst gas EVER! I mean peel paint off the walls bad.

BULLY STICKS!! Healthy, safe, and long lasting. Be sure and buy American made if you can. And DON'T google to find out what they are =)

Non edible nylabones are a big hit with Winston - he's quite a chewer. They last a long time. Kongs are good but mine won't touch them unless there is something in them.

We also do pig ears - though they're fatty. And I do rawhide on occasion when I am here to monitor closely and take them away.

Greenies say that they have changed their formula but I don't believe them ;) They are overpriced, don't last that long, can be dangerous, and have no nutritional value so I don't feed them.

Yep..yep..yep....:thumbsup2
Love the Nylabone for powerful chewers and they last a long time.
Also we buy the Black Kongs and will put their dog food in it. They make a "doggie roll" and I can stuff it in there.

I also do not treat my dogs with "dog treats"....it gives them the "poos" (to quote somebody:rolleyes1 ).:lmao:
For Christmas they got some piggy twists and I still have not given them their pig ear....Waiting for the right moment.;)

We take a Kong and fill it with canned dog food then put it in the freezer. After it's frozen we give it to our dogs, kind of like a doggie popsicle. :) We have two large dogs and they go nuts over it. The best part is it's inexpensive and it keeps them occupied for hours.

rawhide makes Shenzi gassy! :lmao:

she's graduated from chewing on everything to ripping apart all her toys to pull out the fluff... :sad2:

we also have a kong that she likes...I put biscuits in it...

I will have to try that!:thumbsup2
