I own a Canon Rebel DSLR that I love. I use it all the time. I also owned a Canon A series P&S that I used frequently when I needed something smaller to carry. Well my poor little P&S bit the dust-- no fault of the camera. I need a new P&S for my trip to Disney in August. I am looking at Canon again since I think they are great cameras and why mess with something that has worked well so far. I do like to play in manual modes and not always on the "easy " mode. I was looking at a newer A model like the 1000IS or the 2000IS. I also spoted a powershot SD890IS elph that looked interesting. Anyone have any experience with these cameras or any suggestions? I would like a minimum of a 4Xoptical zoom (I use my zoom often). I really don't want to spend more than $200. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have a 5D and a Rebel (film and digital). I just bought Monday a Canon SX10 to replace my A95 P&S. I don't care if I have a bulky p&s. I'm in LOVE! :lovestruc This is gonna be a great camera for Disney!

I think you'll be fine with whichever you decide on...I'd imagine the limited response is most likely because your mind is partially made up already. If you only want to look at Canon, then it comes down to which form factor is preferred, and whether the price is right. The S models are bulkier ultrazooms with lots of versatility, but tend to be over your price range. The G models tend to be advanced P&S models with manual control and RAW ability...also above your price. The A models are cheaper and less 'designer' - the guts are fine, but they don't go for the fancy designs and wow factor. The SD models are much like the A...small sensors and basic features, but wrapped in fancier bodies and materials, and slimmer for the pocket. A & SD are probably pretty close in overall image quality...though consider the models with less megapixels that are a little cheaper (ironically, the 'cheaper' models are those with lower megapixel ratings, but in the end often end up with BETTER image quality because they don't fall for the silly gimmick of the megapixel race and have more space between pixels on the tiny sensor...the more megapixels they cram onto these miniscule sensors, the worse problems they have with noise, blooming, CA, etc).

Of course, there are just as good cameras out there from lots of other manufacturers...but if you're happy with Canon and want to look at only those, you certainly can't go too wrong.

My son (who is a rank novice with a camera) has a Canon Power Shot XS100 IS. He used it in WDW last December:

And I used it in Cabo San Lucas last Jenuary:

It also takes decent video and fits in your pocket.
