We will be at Disney the week of May4th. Do you think that getting the Fantasmic Dinner Package is really needed to get a good seat for the show without waiting for an hour or more? I've been reading all of the comments, but not sure if there will be a long wait the weekwe're there.

I was wondering the same thing -- that is, if it's stiill being offered next year when we go (the first 2 weeks of Feb)
I think we're going during one of the least busy times, will Fantasmic still be crowded enough to need special seating?

We did the dinner package 03/27/03 at H&V and were EXTREMELY glad we did. We arrived at 6:30 show started at 7:30 the place was packed ( it was raining and there still was a possibility of the show being cancled) but the section reserved for the dinner package people was virtually empty when we arrived and had our pick of spots to sit. Would definately recommend doing the dinner package.

Hi there...

I can't answer your question about crowds... but I will say I highly recommend the package... I mean, you have to eat anyway.

So why not have a good meal and relax knowing you have good seats for the show... we went in at 7:00pm and the rest of the stands were packed.. but the reserved section was just starting to fill up... (This was in August)

It is a great show.. but I would not want to be sitting there 90 minutes to wait for it to start in order to have a good seat.

>>^..^<<

If you are going to do some sit-down PS type dinners anwyay and you know you want to see Fantasmic it make sense to me to combine them. The restaurants offered in MGM are quite good, we love Mama Melrose and Brown Derby anway. We just plan on one of our sit down, expensive dinners to be for fantasmic. We have waited once for about an hour in November and it was kind of fun but given the choice I would do the package. Especially since my kiddos ended up eating uncrustable PB&J's and I had a hot dog for dinner - and it wasn't even cheap LOL.

Thanks! If it's still an option we'll do the package. I was thinking we'd eat at our resort, then head to MGM for Fantasmic, but that wouldn't save any time if we had to stand in line for 90 min!

We would prob choose H&V for the buffet -- kids wouldn't have to wait for food and would have more choices.

Overall, I wasn't planning many sit down meals -- my boys are so impatient! Crystal Palace is a must do for me -- I LOVE anything to do with Pooh. Considering Le Cellier for DH. As far as the boys go, they'd rather do fast food, or buffet if they must. The character they most wanted to meet is Peter Pan (?Go figure!?) and I don't think he's at any meals.

I see I am in the minority here but we have seen Fantasmic 4 times, never done the dinner package, and have never regretted not doing it. It might be different if we were going to be there around a holiday when it is extremely crowded but we haven't ever had to stand in line for more than 15 minutes and got great seats, middle, and high enough up not to get wet. IMO these seats are much better than the reserved sections. We usually do Fantasmic on a day that we have had a sit down meal at lunch and just get hot dogs, popcorn, and drinks while we wait for the show to start. There is entertainment before the show begins and we have always had fun and met very nice people sitting around us. It's not nearly as much a bother to wait if you are sitting down and enjoying a snack/light dinner. I've looked at the menus for the package restaurants and I know we could still eat dinner at them and get plenty to eat for much less $$ without paying the package prices. It depends on your family but we don't ever order an appetizer , entree, and dessert EACH, we get our own entrees but split appetizers and desserts. To the original poster, we have been twice in May and one time was the first week of May which is a wonderful time to go and was not crowded especially during the week. Just thought I'd provide another perspective on the subject.

Rafikifan,
That's what I was wondering -- if it was really necessary to use the package at off-peak times. I'll be there the first week of Feb and I think that's about as off-peak as you can get...LOL.

I'd much rather just show up 30-40 min ahead of time and get in line than have to be there hours ahead to check in, eat, etc.
Esp when my boys would rather eat McD's for much less $$$.

I hate to go against the majority here, but we did the package at H&V on our last trip, and it was horrible. The food was bad, the service even worse. If we do a package next time, and I do like the idea of a dinner and a guaranteed seat, then we upgrade to another restaurant.

We've done the H&V the last 3 trips for the dinner package and loved it. You have to be a buffet person (which we are) and we really ejoy it. Not sure about the crowds that week but if you are having dinner at the park anyway, go for it.

Thanks for all of the input. I'm glad to hear that the crowds probably won't be an issue the first week of May.
I'm leaning towards The Mama Melrose package, but may just eat there separately, than go to the show.:smooth:

I've done the Fantasmic Package twice and thought it was great, BUT it was the old version of it where it was not PRE-PAID.

"Reservations are PRE-PAID by credit card at the time of booking"

Now that they want my money upfront, it's not worth it to me. What if it rains and it gets canceled?

Also, you actually are spending more money than before this package change.

If you go off peak it's definitely not worth it.

Good luck.

Okay...you've changed my mind...again! LOL :p
I'll take my chances with the seating. We would much rather eat at the food court or McD's, then go to Fantasmic.
We were planning to see it on our first night of a 10 day stay, so if it were too crowded we could probably just go another night.
I really didn't want to do the package, just wanted someone to tell me I didn't need it.
...that way if it's too crowded it's not my fault! LOL :p

I think it was Sunday, March 30th that we went to Fantasmic. We did not have a dinner package and entered the stadium at 7:00. No problem with seating ... in fact two sections were empty and people were walking in at the last minute with no problems.

Just hope they don't start cutting Fantasmic like with Spectro...

Here's my situation: There is no way I'm waiting (or at least my kids and hubby aren't waiting...especially the hubby, LOL) for 90 minutes to 2 hours to see anything. I mean it just isn't going to happen with my family. So, I figure we'll book the Fantasmic dinner package (which BTW I haven't done since we're going the beginning of June). I'm just hoping we can have a decent meal (doesn't have to blow me away or anything) and have pretty decent seats...I don't have to be in the show, and I'll be happy. I will try to remember that I didn't have to wait for 1 1/2 to 2 hours to get seats and since I'm going in the beginning of June I'm hoping I've made the right decision.

Comments?

I'm with you - I've read all the comments about Fantasmic and I've been weighing it up - but I haven't seen Fantasmic since 1998 and I really want to see it on my next trip in May. BUT my DBF and I hate to wait a long time and I don't want to take the risk. We eat at sit-downs anyway - I've tried Mama Melrose and Brown Derby before and didn't disapprove of either so I'm booking the package. That way I know we're gonna get a seat 30 mins beforehand. And if it rains well then we're in a restaurant anyway and I'll order another glass of wine and perhaps linger more over coffee. I checked what we would eat at Brown Derby and the package seems reasonable considering I would pay $10 just so that I didn't have to wait for an hour even.

So yeah I'm booking it.

We did the old Fantasmic pkg and have the new Fantasmic booked for May. We really like the food at the Brown Derby anyway. There is nothing that says if the theatre isn't crowded you still have to sit in the reserved section but at least if it was you don't have to wait in line for 90 mins. (We all hate waiting.

I read somewhere that there was a concession stand at the back of the show. Could you go early and get a seat, and just eat concession-style there?
