Recommend a Chicago hotel?

DD has always wanted to visit the Field Museum in Chicago. We've just never gotten around to doing it. I think I'll surprise her with a trip for her spring break in March.

I would appreciate recommendations for a nice hotel in Chicago. I'd prefer to be within walking distance or a short cab ride to the Field Museum. I'd like to stay in a nice hotel, but it doesn't need to be Trump Plaza.

Thanks!

The Conrad HIlton on South Michigan Ave is very close to the Field Museum (which is also close to the Planetarium and the Aquarium). It's also a quick bus trip to North Michigan Ave for SHOPPING!

Warning - March in Chicago can by cold, windy and/or snowy!

Try Priceline. Give them the area you'd like to be in & the # of stars you want & you're bound to get a bargain. I always stay on Michigan Avenue because there's fabulous shopping & great restaurants within walking distance.

We stayed at The Hard Rock Hotel a few months back & it was a really fun, hip hotel. Definitely a little bit out of the ordinary. I'd definitely reccomend it.

Chicago Hilton and Towers is rather close. Certainly walking distance.

Last time I was there we had a parlor room (had to sleep on rollaway beds) but the room was huge with tons of windows overlooking the lake.

My advice: try priceline for North Michigan Ave/River North. IMO, this is the best place to stay (close to all the great shopping and restaurants)! There's not much in the way of hotels that's close to the field museum. Like the other poster said, you're likely to freeze your florida bums off in March :rotfl: I think the closest nice hotel is the Hilton on Michigan and still I'm not sure you'd want to walk from there. As far as other hotels, I've stayed at the Hotel Monaco, the Wyndham, and the Millenium Knickerbacker. All great hotels in a great location.

You really can't go wrong staying on Michigan Avenue. They're all really nice hotels & you can usually get a deal on Priceline if you don't care which Michigan Avenue hotel it is.

I took DD to Chicago for her 6th birthday (american girl place), and actually got the Hyatt Regency previously mentioned thru Priceline...got it for $52/night and regular rate is about $200/night.

The museums are not near hotels, but there is a busline that runs from downtown out to the museum area. Frankly, Field is OK, but there's only so many stuffed animals you can look at...we like Science and Industry.

Navy Pier was also WAY neat...and walking distance from Hyatt.

You could also get tickets for Wicked!!! :cheer2:

Yes! Wonderful idea! DD would love it.

Thanks, everyone. I'll look into your suggestions.

You convinced me. A cab in March sounds like a good idea! I'm used to winter in the midwest, but I'm sure that wind off the lake is fierce at that time of year.

I hope Southwest comes out with some good fares. It is too early, but they usually have great deals between Orlando and the midwest. Now, I'm excited!

I don't know how far it is from the Field Museum, but DH and I LOVE the W hotel City Center. It's close to the theater where Wicked is performed! It's a sophisticated funky kind of hotel. It's not on Michigan Ave, but if you're taking cabs, it shouldn't make too much of a difference! Have fun! :)

My Chicago spot is always Hotel Monaco downtown. It's a bit far from the Field Museum, but it's right on the river, steps from Michigan Ave and the staff is wonderful.

In past years it used to be that you could get cheap weekend rates there but I have had less luck this year :( The Kimpton hotels website has a lowest fare guarantee so I always book through them. (Thier hotels in DC and San Francisco are wonderful too...)

Hope that helps!

Yeah, I was too until I was downtown Chicago, also in March. It was BRUTAL!!!

You really can't go wrong using Priceline for a 4* and above hotel. Check www.biddingfortravel.com for information on which hotels commonly come up in specific areas.

I also like the Conrad Hilton as well as the Palmer House (another Hilton). The Hyatt is nice, the Fairmont and the Swiss Hotel near the Hyatt are nicer. I also really like the Sheraton and both of the Embassy Suites with their free made-to-order breakfast. If you want something European chic, the Whitehall up near the Watertower is very nice. We stayed there on DVC points one summer. The Conrad, the Palmer House, the Hyatt and the Sheraton come up often on Priceline ... you should get something for under $75.

:thumbsup2 dont miss out on the art musuem and science and industry they have done alot of remodel there in the past couple of years! have fun!
