My wife and I will be visiting Orlando in Late April/Early May. My wife's birthday falls during our holiday and I would like to take her out for dinner to a restaurant that is a bit more special than the usual tacky tourist places.

Does anyone have any recommendations either within WDW or the International Drive area. We like pretty much all food type with the exception of seafood. Price isnt really a consideration so all reccomendations welcome.

Thanks

Matt

my first thought is victoria and albert's at GF. very elegant. nothing tacky here. also, artist point at WL, jiko at AKL, or california grill at the Contemp. any of those would be wonderful. happy birthday to your wife! :teleport: :earboy2:

First of all, Matt, welcome to the DIS Boards!!

Disney Queen gave you some good recommendations. Victoria & Albert's is in a class by itself. It's very expensive, but if price is not a consideration, this is absolutely the best choice for a special dining experience.

If you decide against Victoria & Albert's, Disney Queen's other recommendations would all be good choices.

Welcome to the Dis, mattr555! We are glad you found us.
Disney queen gave you some great suggestions for special meals. Ill add my favorite place for a special occasion, Yachtsman Steakhouse. We thoroughly enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere when we dined there on our anniversary last year and will be going back again this year.

Thanks for the recomendations. I will take a look at some reviews and try to make a decision.

How far in advance should I think about making a reservation at the places mentioned?

Also, i notice that a jacket is required for V&A's. Can anyone comment on the dress code at the other restaurants mentioned? I hadn't planned on taking a suit to Orlando lol I dont suppose they have house jackets like some casinos do they?

90 days out from the day you would like to dine. the chef's table at V&A is 180 days out. just call dining and they will be happy to help you. resort casual would be nice, but also you can wear your theme park chic and be okay at all of the above, except V&A as you mentioned. be sure to mention it is for your wife's b-day! :teleport: :earboy2:

My wife and I really like Narcoossee's at the Grand Floridian. The food is terrific, and the atmosphere is great. It's elegant, but definitely not stuffy. The restaraunt juts out into the Seven Seas Lagoon, with a wall of windows looking out at the Magic Kingdom. Try to time it during Wishes. They dim the lights and pipe in the music. Very romantic.Mike

My suggestion would be Citricos at the Grand Floridian. It is a beautiful dining room and the food is awesome. I also like that the tables are widely spaced which offers some privacy. Victoria and Alberts does require a jacket for men, but the other restaurants mentioned above all have a "buisness casual" dress code. Realistically though it's not unusual to see people in their park clothes. I think you would be fine in slacks and a collared shirt.

Check out allearsnet.com for menus to all of your Disneyworld dining options. You really can't make a bad decision.

My only comment is that if you choose a Disney Restaurant be prepared for children to be there. (Even V&As) Even late into the evening after being at the parks all day and not so well-behaved (understandably so).

My DH and I went to California Grille at the CR for a late dinner. While the food was great, it was not so romantic with children everywhere. Also, while not exactly rushed, the servers do want to move you along a little so others can be seated. Just some thoughts.............

Everyone is giving you good advise. My suggestion, Blue Zoo, at the Dolphin. The Hotel and surroundings are romantic. puckerup: The rest. is beautiful. Food gourmet. Enjoy yourselves.

Still a fan of Bistro...we had a excellent meal there.

V&A does have house jackets. But they tend to make you look a bit awkward if what you already have on doesn't "go". As an example--last trip we saw a fellow come in with a purple collared shirt and dark brown pants. That didn't look so good when he put on the blue sport jacket they gave him!! Now he didn't seem to care one bit--but I probably would have been a bit embarassed had it been me.

Anyway--if V&A dosen't sound good, then I'd recommend Jiko, California Grill, Citricos, Palio (Italian), Portobello Yacht Club (Downtown Disney) and Yachtsman Steakhouse for steak. All of those should fit your "bit more special" category.
