I'm looking for a light weight reclinable umbrella stroller. I'm travelling alone with 3 yr old and want something not too heavy but where she can nap if she needs. I've seen the Kolcraft one but reviews are 50/50. We have 3 strollers here at home but don't want to carry the non reclinable umbrella or the heavy reg. stroller. And I really don't want to pay a lot. Did see the combis and they lok great but more than I'm willing to spend. Any ideas?

We have a Jeep Cherokee umbrella-style folder. I've seen it on sale recently for $59 or less - we got it for christmas last year, but the grandparents paid $79 for it then.

It's great. It has a small basket and a canopy, and while it doesn't recline flat, it reclines enough that our 11mo old slept in it for a couple hours at a stretch in the parks at WDW last March. When I was looking for a lightweight umbrella stroller I wanted canopy, basket and recline and this was the least expensive one that fit the bill that we really felt comfortable with. It's not as lightweight as some strollers, but it folds up small and it is easy to carry on and off the busses.

It is made by Kolcraft, I think, but we love it. The only problem we've had was with squeaky wheels, and that was fixed with a little oil.

Mur!

Chicco Caddy is about $50 at Babies R Us. Includes a rain cover and carrying case, but no basket for underneath. Although I wonder if you could get one of the Maclaren bags to fit under there.

I just got back from Toys r us, Target, and Walmart. They did have the chicco stroller and it was nice. But they did not have the Jeep Cherokee or Kolkraft reclinable stroller in stock. I did like the Babytrend mesh stroller but it was not reclinable. That, I guess, would be my first priority. So I'll continue to shop. I leave the 31 Oct. Thanks again for the responses. pam

babies r us are carrying maclaren knockoffs for about $60 or so, they look very good for the money. they have recline, hoods, basket and are lightweight.

another good option is the chicco london.

You can get Combi's on e-bay for pretty cheap. We have a Combi, really liked until DS was 20 lbs. It then became a chore to turn. I also did not like how short the handle was. I looked at the Chicco Caddy and really liked it. The Chicco Fly and London are really good too. You can find some of them on e bay for a really good price. We do have the Kolcraft Double reclining umbrella stroller. I like it. Will definatly take it to WDW. You may be able to find the single reclining Kolcraft at Burlington Coat Factory or USA Baby. If you have any more questions, ask away!!

Just check on e-bay:

Just FYI, the Chicco Fly is not the Caddy. The Fly is an older-model stroller that is full-featured; it has a dome hood and a 3 position recline, as opposed to the Caddy's one-position recline.
The seat is also somewhat padded. The list price for it is much higher than the Caddy; about $100.

I have a Fly; it's a nice stroller, and very lightweight. You are not going to get the suspension of a Mac on this level of Chicco, so it will be harder to steer than a comparable Mac. It doesn't have a basket, but a Maclaren-style replacement basket will fit it. However, what I have found is that at WDW, relying on a basket is not a great idea anyway. You really do better with a lightweight backpack slung over the handles, so that you can grab all your stuff quickly when you park the stroller as you head onto a ride.

I have a Fly, a Mac Vogue, and a Pliko. The Fly & the Mac are the same size and about the same weight; the Fly weighs a little bit less, and has a somewhat higher hood. The Mac has better suspension. The Pliko folds compactly, but is NOT light; it weighs 18 lbs. However, the Pliko will carry a heavier child, as it is rated up to 90 lbs.

I have 2 chicco strollers--the trakking and the caddy. I also have a combi something or another, it's bright green :) that's all I can think of at the moment.

anyway, I love my Trekking stroller (think Pliko, it is very similar), but it is heavy. I like that it has a full recline, but did I mention that it is heavy?

This trip we are thinking of taking either the caddy or the combi. since the storage space is non-existant...what do you use? is there an umbrella stroller storage bag?

Personally, I would not recommend the Kolcraft. We had a double Kolcraft that was very hard to maneuver. I haven't tried any of the others though so I can't help there. Good luck. If you find the perfect stroller, please let us know so we can all rush out and buy it. Stroller collecting is my favorite hobby. I have 3 DDs and six strollers. I will either need to have more kids or sell some strollers, LOL.

I'm totally overwhelmed now!! lol. It is very hard to find all of the strollers to test drive at one place. But I have time. I guess Babies r Us would have a better selection then Toys r Us so thats where I am off to in the morning. Whew. I had no idea finding a good, inexpensive reclining umbrella stroller w/ basket, cup holders etc could be so much work!!!! hahah and I'm not picky!!

If you find a stroller you like that has no cup holders, you can get the click n go cup holder and add it to the stroller (they have these with the stroller acc. at Babiesrus). That is what I did!! I think you will be better off to go to Babiesrus too. I would check out the Chicco Caddy and London, Maclaren Daytripper (although a bit expensive)and the Eurotrend strollers (which are the Maclaren knockoffs that someone mentioned--these seem like a good deal). Also, the graco kite might not be a bad option for you, but it does not have the umbrella fold.

Happy Shopping!!

Check out the thread on stroller advice. There is a link to a stroller rental place in Orlando that delivers and picks up. I bet they'd have what you want. They had several options. Good luck.
www.abbf.com I think is the site.

We have the Chicco Trekking which will be coming to WDW with us in December, I think it's a fantastic stroller. Sure it's heavier than some others, but how often are you carrying it? It folds pretty compactly so it's ok on the buses and trams, and its very comfy to push and the kids look comfy in it.

it has a basket underneath as well, and we will add a net basket on the back too. It doesn't have cupholders, but I guess if they are important you can get clip on ones.

You can't go wrong with a Maclaren Daytripper either. Although it doesn't recline, and generally isn't as plush as the chicco, but for a 3 year old it should do the job nicely.

I bought the Babytrend Eurotrend(the Mac knockoff) 2 months ago for $59. It has all the features I wanted at a good price. It reclines(half or full), it has a nice sized basket, and it has a canopy. It didn't have a cup holder, so I purchased 1 and attached it myself. I love it! It folds easily and is lightweight(atleast compared to my full size stroller). We just took it on our trip to Cedar Point and Worlds of Adventure(ohio) and it did well!:D

O.k. So I got drawn into reading this thread thinking I need another stroller (we all know that feeling). I went ahead and looked on E-bay and one caught my eye. It's called the Babygo Umbrella Stroller. The thing is I can't find it anywhere online - you know I wanted to check it out further, research it a little bit. It sounds to good to be try (fully reclines and is 8lbs.). I want to bid on it but don't want to be stuck with junk. Anyone know anything about it???

I saw it on ebay too but couldn't find any info on it other than on ebay. The price is almost to good to be true. I think it is made by evenflo but couldn't find the stroller on their web site. Also did a quick search on recalled items and nothing. maybe someone can help us out????

I'm nearly positive that the stroller being sold on Ebay as the BabyGo is actually from Meilibao, Ltd., a juvenile products mfr. out of Hong Kong. It is almost certainly the Model 8105 shown on this page: http://www.meilibao.com/buggy.htm Please note the rather unusual (for the US, anyway) "bucket" design of the seat recline. This is a stroller for an infant, folks. An older child cannot recline in a stroller like this.

Meilibao specializes in creating steel knockoffs of popular aluminum strollers being sold around the world by better-known brands. I own one myself, a Maclaren knockoff that was marketed in the US by a California firm known as Fashion Intl. A bit heavy due to the steel used in the frame, but otherwise a perfectly good stroller.

If you want a basic reclining umbrella design for a rock-bottom price, I might suggest the Avalon strollers sold by Baby Depot (the baby dept. of the Burlington Coat Factory chain.) They run about $20.

IMO, the best of the available low-cost umbrella strollers on the market right now is the Chicco London (which is essentially an updated & improved version of the older Chicco Fly3.) One step down, the Chicco Caddy is also excellent.

An exceptional bargain available right now, IMO, is the Inglesina Swift. It is being priced for the US market at $99. (Free shipping from lots of webdealers.) This stroller is nearly comparable to the Maclaren Vogue (the suspension is not quite as perfect) and has a little something that I think makes it ideal for Florida use -- a hood that is lined in white fabric. There are several new Inglesina's showing up on Ebay right now for good prices.

None of these strollers is going to have a built-in cup holder for the grownups, because conventional US-style cupholders don't work on strollers with umbrella handles. However, there are quite a few aftermarket cup holders that can be added for about $6; I've used several different types. There is a new one out right now that will fit on almost any stroller, and on lawn chairs and mobility walkers, too, btw. It's called the "Go-Anywhere Tray" by a company called Babu. It retails for about $20. http://www.mybabystroller.com/babu/babu_tray.htm

you probably saved myself and mkutch some money. It did say on ebay the weight limit was 30 pds (i think) but my 3 yr old would not be comfortable in something like the bucket design. And I'll check out the avalon. Thanks Pam
