I saved my hambone, juices and a little ham from Christmas. Does anyone have a recipe using the hambone? All I am finding are ones with beans but picky dh and ds won't eat beans :(

Thank you!!

Veggie soup.

Potato soup.

Chili.

Even though no beans, have you tried a different bean? I like red beans over most others. These aren't kidney beans, actually called small red beans. My favorite bean thing is more soup than beans.

I just hauled mine out of the freezer today and made corn chowder. (First time I'd done it, but came out pretty good.)

I put the bone with about 2" of water in a pot. Covered and cooked until the meat all came off the bone. (Take bone out.) Add 3 raw peeled/cut up potatoes and boiled 15 minutes.

When done, add can of cream style corn, can of regular corn and a can of evaporated milk. Cook on low til warmed through. Salt/pepper to taste.

This sounds yummy!

I hope you have had it frozen.......

Thanks for the recipes! The ham and potatoes sounds good! Dh will eat that. He is just a meat and potatoes guy :)

I second split pea soup. I use the old Betty Crocker recipe and cook it until the peas are nothing but stew like. I recently made it with a honey baked ham bone and it was divine!

My standbys for leftover ham:

Ham and bean soup

Ham, green beans and potatoes

Split pea soup

Ham Pot Pie

Cheesy Potato Soup

6 cups water
1 small onion
2 chicken bouillon cubes
Boil these ingredients for 10 min, then add 6-8 potatoes (I use 4 cans of diced potatoes, and I mash one can to thicken the broth)
Then add:
1 can evaporated milk
1 can cream of celery
1 stick butter
8 oz of Velveeta cheese
Ham cubes or slices
Let this simmer until cheese melts. Enjoy

YUMMM! I made this today. Our refrigerator went out over night last night and I was trying to salvage as much as I could. I had a hambone left from Christmas and I read this thread this morning, went to the store for a couple things, and started cooking this about 2PM. Just finished eating it, and all I have to say is THANK YOU! I will definitely make this again. I followed your directions exactly and it turned out wonderfully. So, thanks again!

Pea Soup with Dumplings! YUM!!!!!!!!!! As kids my sis and I would fight over the dumplings. :rotfl:
