DD is doing a family heritage project. She had to trace our roots back to the country of origin (England- ancestor came to America in 1677). Along with a flag, report, etc., she needs to include a traditional English recipe. Do you have a favorite recipe that you could share? She doesn't have to fix it (although we probably would just for the fun & experience). It can be a main dish, dessert, etc. Thank you!

Well I thought about it and decided that one of the most British of puddings is Spotted Dick and Custard...
Have a look at this web site for a really nice recipe..
http://britishfood.about.com/od/regionalenglishrecipes/r/Pudding.htm
When I was young and in infants school (many years ago now) school dinners used to have this and Jam Roly Poly, which was my second choice for you to look at.
As you can tell I like puddings:thumbsup2
Also look at a couple of other British classics..
Shepards Pie
Lancashire Hot Pot
Queen of Puddings

I remember having to do the opposite at school and look for food from other countries and I picked USA - researching biscuits and gravy etc :goodvibes

A few that come to mind in addition to the ones others have put:

Full English Breakfast, Bubble and Squeak, Ploughman's Lunch, Cottage Pie, Fish and Chips, Pie Mash and Liquor, Cornish Pasties, Bangers and Mash, Bread and Butter pudding, Eton Mess, Eccles Cake (what a healthy nation we are!)

Hope these are of some help! :thumbsup2

Do you know which area of England your ancestors came from as there might be a local dish from that area which would fit in well
