Recipe Help - Fresh Tomato Sauce w/o garlic

I just got back from the Farmers market and picked up two big bunches of vineripe tomatoes. I would like to make fresh tomato sauce for dinner tonight and found this recipe online:

The problem is that it asks for 3 cloves of garlic. My stomach does not tolerate garlic well, so the most I could use would be maybe 1 clove. So, what could I substitute to this recipe or would it still taste OK without the extra garlic. I was thinking perhaps adding some spicy sausage or grilled chicken. Would that help or hurt?

Please help a none-cook, who is trying to become a cook, cook. :thumbsup2
 
Do you like onion? Does your tummy have issues with Garlic powder? I'd try either of these two options.
 
I do like onions and can use garlic power. How much onion and/or garlic power should I use? Thx!
 
Since there is already onion in the recipe, I would just cut the garlic in half. You can substitute minced garlic instead but I wouldn't use garlic powder or salt.
