We finally decided on getting married in the uk (small wedding) and having our honeymoon in Disney and Aruba. Last week, we decided to call at the hotel where we are having the wedding for a bar meal. The meal was appalling and to cut a long story short - they gave us mouldy bread - it was totally green with mould on one side!

The manager called me the next day, and apologised and promised that he would try his best to ensure my wedding day is perfect. But, all I can think about is that mouldy bread. I have spoken to my family about it, and none of them feel comfortable about eating at this hotel now, and say I should ask for my deposit back.

But, it is only three months to my wedding and i don't know if i will find another venue in time. I don't even have a dress yet.

Would you give the hotel another chance, or look for something else?

Sorry to hear about your experience. I would really say that it would depend on how much your want your event to be there. I have worked in conventions/catering in a resort and some negative things unfortunately occur every once in a while...but depending on the establishment, its rare! Was the other day the first time you had eaten there? If so...then I would be a little worried, only because the first impression and first experience you had was negative! basically what I am trying to get at is do what YOU and your fiance feel right doing! If you had your heart set on it I'd say go for it! Also...what I would personally do is try and go there again to get a meal and see how it compares to the first one! That may help make the decision a little easier!

That sounds horrible. :guilty: For the next couple of days, I would search and see if you can find another place to hold your reception. If it is possible, then I would ask for my deposit back and book the second venue. If you can't get your deposit back, I probably would just stick with your first venue (instead of losing money).

Good luck. I'm sure everything will turn out for the best.

That's terrible! I'm shocked that the waiter/waitress didn't notice! If you and your DH really want to get a different, venue, I'd say go for it. My waitress experience does say that sometimes, things do go wrong in a restaurant--so maybe it was a random occurrence. Maybe you should go by it again, and see how the food/service is--perhaps it was a random occurrence. Do you know anyone else who has eaten there? Ask them, see what they had to say. Also, see if the hotel will give out references from anyone else who has had a reception there, to see their opinion. Don't lose hope though--I'm sure your wedding will be wonderful, no matter where it is! :)

Well we called them today, and decided to cancel. When we had the problems with the meal, and the mould, the duty manager said it was because agency staff were running the kitchen, and we decided not to take the risk of them still running it in October.

We've found another nice venue with the same dates, so we're going to check it out. Personally, I would have loved a Disney wedding, but DF would really like family to be there.

I think that you are doing the right thing. The last thing you want is for that to happen on your wedding day!!!

Im glad you made a decision...they said the reason why there was mouldy bread was because the agency staff was running the kitchen? That doesn't sound like a valid excuse...to me, no matter who is running what, there shouldn't be big problems with the food like that! But...Im glad you found somewhere else, have fun checking it out! :-D

Thanks everyone. Checked out new venue today, and it is fantastic - much nicer than our last choice, so everything has worked out well. :cool1:

Yay! I'm glad everything worked out well--there's no sense having more to worry about on your big day. :) P.S. Are you from anywhere near London? I spent 3 months over there last year and loved it!

Gradar1 - Glad you liked London. I have been there only a handful of times, as I live about 360 miles away, close to the English Lake District.
