I need to give my details to DME for my flight October 18. I am traveling with two teen DD's that "need" to have their cosmetics, toiletries, etc. With the new restrictions we can't carry those on. We are flying from MSP, minimum three hours flight arriving around 6 p.m. If you've had DME get all your luggage in the very recent past, how long as it taken to get to your room? Trying to decide if I should let DME pick it all up, or not tagging one bag with all the "essentials" in it and just picking that one up. The second option almost seems a little silly then to not just pick it all up. Any input from recent experiences would be helpful! Thanks!

With all the new carry-on restrictions, I think a lot more people are just picking up their own luggage before they head to DME. I never need anything that I can't carry on with me, so not having all my bags with me at checkin isn't an issue....swimsuit and a clean shirt..that's about it.

My wife loves the convenience of DME automatic luggage delivery so much that she's going to ship a small box with cosmetics and toiletries in advance of our arrival at WDW. We'll time it so that it will arrive at the resort a day or two before we arrive, so we can call and confirm it arrived.

If this weren't an option, and if I needed immediate access to liquids in a checked bag, I'm fairly sure if I left one small bag untagged then I'd just leave them all that way. If I had to waste my time at baggage claim to wait for one bag, it's not going to take me any extra time to wait for 3 bags, and then that way I don't have to wonder when the luggage willl make it to my room.

Regardless of any of this, however, I'm STILL going to pack my carry-on with supplies for the first 24 hours of my trip (minus prohibited items, of course) just in case the AIRLINE delays my checked luggage.

Just pack the essentials in a small suitcase and don't tag it for ME then pick that bag up and take it to the bus with you. If your going to the parks when you check in then you can have them hold it for you.

That would work.

However, going to baggage claim before going to DME check-in is likely to delay your arrival at the DME counter by around 20 minutes — or longer if the baggage handlers are backed up. And that means you'll be on a later DME motorcoach, so you'll arrive at WDW later. (Also, I happen to hate waiting at baggage claim; to me, it's almost as bad as waiting at the Department of Motor Vehicles.)

My family takes small carry-ons with anything that we need right away. Of course, carry-ons can no longer include liquids or gels. If there's a banned item that we need right away, such as sunscreen, I'd just quickly buy it at the resort gift shop (or at the airport, if we see it there). The other liquids and gels would be in the checked bags, which would "magically appear" in our room within a few hours.

Hey pygmymom,

See you at the airport. I fly on October 18th. In fact, my plane lands at 5:54 at MCO, are we on the same flight? Airtran for me. Heck, maybe we even ride the same ME bus if we are going in the same area of WDW. Our luggage may even go together.....

I have neighbors flying on the same flight and staying at the same resort...... makes for a small world.

Had a pow-wow with my DD's and as long as the older one can have her pressed powder, gum and they both can have some sort of lip balm in a stick they should be able to survive and I'll check all the bags through DME. I promised to buy toothpaste and maybe a lotion if we haven't gotten our luggage before the gift shop closes at 11 p.m. Plan to get anti-bacterial wipes for on the plane--anyone have an issue with those?

My last experience with DME and luggage in January was great. However, for my first time last October DME was a little too efficient. Even though I didn't mark my luggage with the DME tags and told them I would pick it up myself (we were arriving after 11 p.m.), unknown to me, they picked up my luggage anyway. Spent quite awhile looking for it before I found that out.

Hey, Duds, as of right now, we are on the same flight--Airtran has changed me once already. I'll be the short woman with the two teen-aged girls who better be smiling since they get to miss a little bit of school to go to Disney.

Very cool. This particular flight has not changed flight times in months, so hopefully I didn't just jinx us.

I will be the big guy on the aisle just in front of the exit row.... unless I can snag the exit row........ DW and I will be the giddy ones who got to leave the kids with grandma for the 5 days.....

We have actually considered a late ADR for someplace like Whispering Canyon. Our friends are celebrating their 15th wedding anniversary and we want to take them out... they have no idea what WC is like....... could be fun.

I used DME on 8/28. Got to POP at 8pm. Got to room around 8:30 - 8:45pm. Went to eat. Returned to room around 10pm as luggage was arriving. Hope this helps.
