Well, now that we are living down here about 30 minutes from the parks, we have made a few short trips. Last weekend, we took advantage of the Florida Resident Discount and stayed on property to enjoy the full benefit of the Extra Magic Hour. While there, we at at several different restaurants.
All Star Movies Food Court: Great selection! The bakery had some really nice selections of coissants, muffins and sweet rolls, and they do made to order omelettes at one of the other counters. DH had the scrambled egg platter, which was huge, and he said delicious. One evening we had a pizza. Not quite as good as those at the food court at PO-FQ, but still tasty. The cheese was plentiful and very creamy in texture. Definitely hit the spot. Another evening before E ticket night, we ate there and I had the chicken quesadilla which was very good and made to order, DH had the chili cheese dog and DD had chicken fingers. All were very delicious!
While in MGM, we ate at one of our favorite spots... 50's Primetime Cafe. As usual, we were NOT disappointed! Love the place. I had the pot roast with mashed potatos and subbed the green beans for the carrots and DH had the meatloaf (one of these days we will branch out and try something different
). Both were delicious, as usual! I had the Long Island Tea, which was wonderful, and DH had a beer. DD had a hot dog and fries which she always loves, with Root Beer. For dessert, we had the S'Mores (always a highlight of our meal). Needless to say, if any birds were waiting for crumbs, they would starve! The service was very good, as usual. Our server was "cousin", and was very busy, but still we had fun with her and her service was prompt. We didn't misbehave enough though, because no one got reprimanded (we will have to do something about that next time!)
While at Animal Kingdom, we ate at Tusker House. We just love this place... counter service, but with a little extra. The seating is very comfortable and a great break from the Florida sun. The food is quite delicious and unlike what you would expect from a counterservice restaurant. I had the Balsalmic Chicken Salad, which was huge and quite filling and tasty. DH had the 1/2 roasted chicken with mashed potatos and green beans, which I will definitely think about getting next time. DD had the peanut butter and jelly sandwich, which is actually a Smucker's Uncrustable. She LOVED it... said they have those for lunch as school sometimes. I had never seen them, but she really like it! We bought the vouchers that include an entree with large drink, either a box of popcorn or ice cream cone and a bottled drink for $11.99 each for adults. The kids was $5.99. We thought it was an excellent deal. We had our meal, DD and I had ice cream cones and DH had popcorn, then we each got a bottled water before leaving the park to take back to the room for later.
Last Sunday we went to the Magic Kingdom for Extra Magic Hour. In our haste to make it there to take advantage of as much as possible, we didn't eat breakfast, so by 10 am we were STARVING! Imagine our surprise when we could find very few places at which to eat before 11 am. Of course, there are Crystal Palace, (the wait was IMMENSE without PS) and Cinderella's (which is always booked up) and the bakery on Main Street with a line coming out of the door. Since we were really not in the mood for breakfast, or should I say sweets, at this time, we went in the exit and grabbed some hoagie style sandwiches from the quick serve area and ate them. They were good, but we really were looking for something like a Pecos Bill Burger or something along those lines. So, word of warning... either get those PS, or eat before you go!
For dinner that night we took DH to Fulton's at DTD for Father's Day. We sat on the upper deck overlooking the lake and construction of Saratoga Springs Vacation Club Resort. Our service was EXCELLENT. The food was wonderful. DH had peel and eat shrimp as an appetizer and a cup of the New England Style Clam Chowder before his entree. I had the mussels appetizer (oh I thought I had died and gone to heaven) and the lobster bisque. For dinner we had the lobster tails and King Crab dishes, splitting them between the 3 of us (DD is a little seafood fan, and we are busy spoiling her for any man). Although the bill was a bit expensive, it was worth every penny, as the food and service were some of the best we have had at WDW!
Yesterday we went to Epcot... it was raining much of the day, so we concentrated on Future World. After riding Figment in the Imagination pavillion, we decided we needed to eat. We went over to the Land Pavillion and the food court was quite busy, so we checked out the wait time at Garden Grille without PS. We stood in line for about 10 minutes to get our name on the list, and within 5 minutes more they had a table for us. The food was fantastic! Make sure to eat some of the pumpkin break with honey butter while waiting for your entree---delicious!!! We especially enjoyed the Flank Steak, mashed potatos and stuffing. DD loved the mac and cheese and chicken fingers that came on her skillet, and she liked our catfish, flank steak, and mashed potatos as well. For dessert, she had worms in mud (basically gummy worms in a chocolate pudding/cookie crumb mixture that is absolutely delicious) and the adults enjoyed marble cake with peaches and whipped cream topped with dark chocolate shavings... the cake was extremely moist and melted in your mouth! Our service was wonderful and we enjoyed prompt refills on drinks and reorders of the mashed potatos and flank steak, as well. The characters were Mickey, Pluto, Chip and Dale, and we were especially impressed with Pluto and Chip... they were alot of fun and really made the lunch complete!
We are going back tomorrow and starting at MGM and then hopping to MK for the little known attractions, like Tom Sawyers Island and Toontown... don't know what culinary delights await us, but I know we will enjoy them!
