Recent cruisers - drop off?

Hello recent cruisers!

Can anyone tell me if my DH drops the rest of us off at the
port and goes to return the rental car - can I check him in
if I have all his docs? Would I need a picture ID since he'll
have his DL with him (returning the car)?

If not, I guess he'll have to check himself in when he returns.

What's the best strategy?

Thanks in advance!

I believe all members of your party must be present together to check in. Even if I am wrong about that, your DH will need to check himself in with his personal ID. You could always get in line and just have people skip ahead of you if you reach check-in before DH comes back, but I think that may piss some people off, lol.

Why not just all go to the drop off and then take shuttle to the Port as a family .. if this is done early enough in the day geting a decent spot in the line should be no problem..

I have read many people say that they check in & then your DH would only have to go to the person who helped you to show them his ID.

We have had DH drop us at the terminal and return the rental car twice. I have checked all of us in (4 in total) and they will print his KTTW card and hold it at the desk. When he arrives on the shuttle he goes up to the CM where I checked in and shows his ID and they give him his card. It does not take long, so it is not like you are "cutting" in line ahead of others and he will wait until the people at the counter are finished before asking for his card. I do not think you really want to have everyone return the rental car. There is enough to do at the terminal to keep the kids busy until they can board.

My suggestion would be to have your husband drop all other family members off at the port. Have one member (if they are old enough) get a place in line to board the ship. Check everybody in. When your husband gets there he either picks up his card or checks in either way. My husband was not present last year when I checked in. Trying to fit a family w/luggage back on the shuttle may be a bit much. One person returning is a lot easier. Just my opinion..:)

Just got back from trip. We arrived at the port at 10:30. I dropped my family off and they checked in (THEY had my Birth Certificate) while I returned the car. I was back at the port in less than 30 min. I had to show a photo Id to get into the port. When I got to the terminal, my Mom told me what counter to go to. I showed my photo ID again and the CM gave me my KTTW card. Very easy and smooth.

There are porters to help with all the luggage when you drop everyone at the port. I took my carry-on with me. All I had to do was jump on the shuttle van to get back.. Used Budget.

Thanks for everyone's help! I know we want to drop everyone off at the port except DH - just didn't know how it worked from that point on!

Thanks!

On both our Magic cruises DH dropped us off at the terminal and returned the rental car while I checked everyone in using his passport. Now maybe because the passport is a photo ID, neither time did he have to pick his KTTW card up at the counter nor did our parent's who were wandering around with our children. I checked all 4 adults and 3 kids in with passports and birth certificates for the kids and received all 7 cards. Very, very easy and definitely not worth taking all of you and the luggage to the rental car place and then load in their van.

Have a great trip
