Soooo - I love the Santa Fe, I have a real soft spot for it (and those amazingly comfy beds).

In April, there will be 4 of us, instead of the usual 2 or 3. I have stayed in the Cheyenne once, but it was 7 years ago, so I'm looking for a bit of recent information :).

The bunk beds are the major advantage for me this time round. How are the rooms otherwise at the moment? Do the beds squeak (dont laugh but honestly just about the only thing i remember about my last visit there was the bedstead which squeaked every single time I moved a muscle in bed :confused3).

I know there are Cheyenne fans here, so tell me what you think of the rooms please.

Hi, I stayed at the Cheyenne on my solo trip just before Christmas. I can honestly say that I do not have any complaints over the rooms (or anything else). The room was warm, clean and well themed. The double bed didn't squeak and was very comfortable (trust me: I spent most of my second evening in it once the flu symptoms started showing up). Obviously I cant vouch for the bunk beds but they looked comfortable lol.

We stayed in Feb 2012. The beds did squeak a bit; and weren't the comfiest but were sleepable after a long day at the parks!

We were there just before Christmas, and as I've posted elsewhere on here, the rooms (well, certainly in the block I was in!) need some TLC. These are things that are specific to OUR one room (out of HOW MANY?! lol), so won't necessarily apply to all:

Bad things:

1. Had trouble with the card reader for unlocking the door - not the cards themselves, but the reader was loose and we had to wobble it about to even allow the card to go in fully!

2. Wallpaper was peeling in places.

3. Curtain wasn't connected to all the curtain rings! And I couldn't reach to re-attach them. And CM obviously didn't notice or weren't bothered about it. Made the room look uncared for.

4. Bed a bit hard (but that's down to personal taste!) so much so that DH ended up sleeping on the bottom bunk of the bed for the last 2 nights as the mattresses on there were slightly softer! lol (DD slept well all week on the top bunk!)

5. Bed 'banging'. Ok, now before anyone gets their dirty minds in gear, that's NOT what I'm talking about!! lol Basically everytime we sat on the bed, it 'knocked' and on inspection noticed that the base of the bed is NOT attached to the head board. So if it's a little wobbly and the right distance from the head board, it knocked and would have done when turning int he night too. But I simply pulled the bed out an extra inch and problem solved!

Good things

1. Personally love the theme, and the benefit of bunk beds is great with kids.

2. We had a lovely electronic safe in our room which you could set your own pin number for. It was a great thing to have for things like ipads during the day! (Great for bringing for the drive down, but not really used once there!)

3. Cleanliness was great, can't fault that at all.

4. Room was lovely and warm (in fact, we opened the window a crack every now and again - personal thing!) - much better for a room to be warm than cold in December!

5. We loved the location. We were first a bit disappointed on arrival as our room was in a block that was at the furthest possible point from reception/breakfast/shop/bus!! However this ended up being a major advantage as we were the closest to the park and the path was just behind us making the walk to the park very easy!

Ultimately, we would go back as it's the only hotel with bunks, especially when we have child number 2, and the themeing is the most fun! But I'd prefer to wait for the refurbishment. But seeing as Newport Bay and New York are first in line, that could be sometime. I'm looking forward to trying both Sequoia and Santa Fe this year to see how the refurbishments compare....

Hope that helps - trying to be honest about the good and bad!

thanks guys - yes, it all helps :).

I've had peeling wallpaper and dodgy room-card holders at the NBC (wallpaper and a few other maintenance issues) and Santa Fe (card holder) so those don't really put me off.

Hopefully we'll get a non-squeaky bedstead - and I'll remember your trick of moving the base away from the headboard C :thumbsup2.

If I could be guaranteed a bunk room at the Santa Fe I'd be there like a shot, but I really do think with 4 of us the Cheyenne makes more sense.

Sorry to hijack but does anyone know when DLP plan to start the refurb? It seems to be all systems go with NPBC. Great to see all these lovely improvements (leaves the dilemma of having to stay in them all again though just to see the nice, fresh rooms, well played Disney :P )

I'd assume they'll concentrate on a hotel at a time, and NPBC seems like a BIG project.... but I'm just guessing.....

I know the return of the NPB goes until October - maybe after that though could be the HNY? If anything comes through our press box I'll let you know ;) The Cheyenne would be amazing with a refurb!

Ooooh thanks for that Lisa! We are so looking forward to seeing these lovely new rooms at NPB! :yay: Be rude not to see them at HNY then after that ;)

We adore the Cheyenne, and have stayed there 7 times out of 9. After a cold February day in the parks we find the rooms very warm and welcoming. I actually find the beds on the soft side, not the hard side so I guess it's all down to personal taste. The bunks with two boys are ideal, and the bottom one is really cosy, especially with the little light on. We have had a few niggles eg safe not working once, few problems with the card reader, but never anything major. :goodvibes
