Had been waiting for the December Dings to come out and finally purchased a flight on Southwest under their regular fares for $54 each way. This morning a Ding appeared for $39 each way non-stop. I was able to cancel the prior purchase and apply the credit to the new Ding purchase. It worked out great. You had to use your cancellation number in the Apply Previous Credit Box.

Isn't Southwest great.

I have done this several times and saved big $$$.

I'm happy that a better fare came along for you and you have saved .

I just booked my SW for December too. Got a good rate but I would like to know how you go about changing this if a better DING comes along. Can someone kindly list the steps?

First, we opened two screens. One with the Ding and one with the regular Southwest site under the Cancel Flight tab. Fill out all the information on the Ding site except for payment method. Then, under the SW Cancel tab fill out the flight you are wanting to cancel. Once cancelled, SW will immediately e-mail you with a cancellation confirmation number. Copy this confirmation number into Method of Payment Refund box under the Ding site. You will still have to fill out the credit card name holder and address, but no credit card number. This is necessary so they can apply the credit.

Prior to doing all these steps, I first made sure that our old fare was still available in case we cancelled and there were no longer any Ding seats available. I guess there are no guarantees from the time you start this process to the time you complete it that there will still be a seat available under the Ding. It worked fine for us. Good luck.

thanks so much, I really appreciate having the "how to" spelled out like that.
