My DH and I are currently in the "do we, or don't we" stage of forking over the money for this camera.

I've been drooling over the photos that y'all are posting on here, and although I realize that there is considerable skill involved, I know part of it is mechanics too.

Currently, we're lacking both!

We have a trip to Estes Park and WDW upcoming, and would love to have the camera for this trips. Then, we'll start working on those lessons. :teeth:

I've searched the board for eBay topics, but I'm still leary of buying electronics on there. Right now, there is one for $700 and it sounds like a great deal, but all four corners of the box are dented in. Sounds like it could have been dropped to me. Of course, DH is all about buying it. Right now.

Anyone on here purchased on the web and in particularly an auction site that can give me some warm fuzzies?

that seems similar to the price you get from beach camera or buydig.com and you know it's good there...i have been buying some stuff from ebay but only things under $100..and often the stuff is close to the same price if it's "buy me" and sometimes the bids go over what you can get it on an online store for. my body only was i think a little under 700 from buydig.( with the kit lens about 100 more.) do a google search for rebel xt and they'll take you to links for price grabber, etc, then you can compare

looked it up at buydig... with the kit lens it's 739, with body only 639(?) around that at least( short term memory stinks)

most of the freebies they throw in on ebay are worth what you pay for them...$0 :)

Buydig is selling the black XT with the 18-55mm lens kit for $739 or $639 for the body only. I would buy it there before I bought it on eBay. I give the majority of my online business to B&H Photo. I have bought 2 bodies and several lenses from them with no problems whatsoever. All of it was in perfect condition with all the US warranty documents inside the box. They want $762 for the one with the kit lens and $662 for the body only.

Costco had the silver body with standard lens for 699 when I was there the other day....

Another fan of B & H Photo here! :thumbsup2 For my camera body, I didn't want to mess with ebay and not having a store to deal with, in case of any problems. The price on ebay is so close to online retailer that I wouldn't risk it.

I have purchased camera equipment through ebay though. Cameta Camera has an ebay store and their price was the best for our camcorder. That was several years ago, and they have a b&m store in NY.

Good luck in your search!

You've all definitely made me rethink the eBay purchase! I'll pass the info on to my non-DISing DH.

Hopefully we'll make the purchase by this weekend!

Thanks again! :thumbsup2

Just remember it's not just the camera that makes great pics it's mostly the person behind the camera. So you can have the best camera in the world but it will do you no good if you don't know how to use it. I've seen some pretty amazing shots from 2mp camera that you'd swear not taken with a 2mp camera.

Thanks for the info! I sent the link to my husband. It sounds like a pretty good deal to me. I just wish it were for the black one. The silver one just looks like it would show scratches easily.

For $150 off, I might be able to get over that pretty quickly though. :teeth:

code still good. HURRY! A 200 use code won't last long.

My DH is at the firestation looking it over. I think he's going to go for it. I'll post if we're able to use it.

my price to get the silver over the black was only $75.... That was the difference in price for the cheapest I found at the time. Would have prefered the black, but figured the savings would go better toward accesories than cost of the black.

Best Buy told us that they would price match, so my husband is going to call them and see if that applies to online dealers as well.

If they do, and they don't care if it's silver or black, then we'd end up with the black one.

Personally, I wouldn't look at any used digital camera priced at more than 60% of the street price. That's just me though.

most places won't match internet... is what I have found. And if it is an out of state internet provider, you would lose the sales tax savings... something to think about.

Dell's in Texas, so that won't help me, but it did cross my mind.

I think I read someone say on here that the silver body reminded them of a toy and the black one looked like a real camera. I wish I could get that out of my mind!

Someone here mentioned that the silver is not as hot to the touch if out in the sun, but I still like the black one :)
