Hi All!! I had no idea about these journals. I have been reading all the posts, but not the journals! Now for the past like week I have been catching up on the journals! I am on DISboards 1-2xs daily (kinda obsessed haha) Well, My name is Rebecca and My fiance's name is greg and we are getting married on November 30, 2012 at the Wedding Pavilion with the white room as our cocktail hour and St. Augustine room (all 4 rooms) for our reception. We are extremely excited and cannot wait. We are inviting approx. 150 people

We live in Jacksonville, Florida

We have everything ready to go. Our planning day is on the 18th of June and my dad is flying from NJ to go plan with us. My mom would come but she won't fly! We did our engagement photos in Savannah, Ga (they came out fabulous)!!! Our save the dates are complete, but the envelops I want to use are on back order for a few weeks. I want to send them out on April 1st (8 months out) do you think that is too soon?!?!?!?!?!!?! The reason is, we have people coming from Rhode Island, Texas, Hawaii, Bahamas, NJ, and NYC... I would think that is sufficient time, but we will see. The Save the dates are amazing. I got them done at a place called declaration boutique in St. Augustine, Florida. Lara, does amazing work!!!!

Although, the planning is going smoothly (most of the way), there are some bumps in the road. Maybe you guys can help me out.


The first thing is that I am having a man-of-honor, a maid of honor, and a matron of honor and they all are not communicating (especially for the bridal shower) Now I know I shouldn't be involved, but my man of honor tells me everything. What should I say to them?! Its such a headache!

The next thing is I know this is soon, but tuxes, my colors are right now (i have changed my colors multiple times) navy blue and lemon yellow. I don't know what my guys should wear. And then my man of honor can not wear the same thing. I don't want them to look tacky, but we will see =)

I will post pictures of the save the dates and our engagement photos when i get home!!!! I hope to talk to you guys soon

 
Yay new PJ, also wow a big wedding I love reading about those.

Usually I see std's go out 8-12 months and sometimes even earlier/later! I really think it depends on the couple. So I don't see any issues with sending them out by April 1st at all. :)

There's so many pretty different colour combinations so I don't blame you for being indecisive. Hm as for what the guys should wear hm maybe grey suits? Could always go with black or navy blue too. I do love the colour combo of navy blue and lemon yellow.
 
Welcome! A new PJ! I think 8 months out is perfectly acceptable for a DW. Especially with people coming from as far as yours are.

Regarding the shower, do you have a mother or aunt who would be interested in planning it. Maybe you can enlist their help and have them be the communicator between the BMs.

I sent out my invites 11months before.... similar situation that people would be travelling (we are from the UK) so the longer the better to sort travel arrangements and finances etc...

Hello! :goodvibes I definitely don't see a problem in sending things out early. You figure it gives people time to save up, if needed, or set up time off from work, dog-sitting, etc.

I'm not the most stylish girl in the world, but maybe have the guys in regular tux colors (whatever everyone likes the most) and then have either the navy or lemon featured in the ties or vests?

I look forward to reading more! :)
 
Hi guys!! Thanks for the advice and your input. It's much appreciated!!! This afternoon after I woke up (I am a nurse and I work nights) I got an email from the place that did my save the dates and they were in!! I am going to pick them up on Tuesday. I am so excited, but then it's time to address the envelopes, totally not looking forward to that.

I'm sorry you're having problems with your MOH, MOH and MOH! :laughing: It sounds funny when I say it that way. It must be a night mare for you! :(
I'm having a similar problem and so I decided I had to "take charge" as it were. (but not really) I'm so honored that everyone wants to do something, but when no one communicates, it can be really frustrating. So I decided to have two bridal showers in two different cities. (course this may not work for you, but we're all over the country so it was a perfect solution.) I put my MOH in charge of one party in one city, and put the other who wanted to do a party in charge of another city. This way they don't HAVE to talk to each other, and each feels included. Maybe that will help you. :)

Welcome and Congrats! I would definitely send out your STD's as soon as possible, link them to your website for hotel rates and info, etc. That way they can start to plan and decide if they will be able to make the trip. The more they know up front, the easier it will be as you get closer.

Navy and yellow sounds really nice! It makes me think of a very preppy/ boating theme? Am I wrong? (I also live in New England and attend lots of preppy weddings so I could be skewed) You could have the guys wear navy suits with a yellow tie, and the girls wear pretty yellow dresses. Or were you thinking a deeper yellow since its the end of November/almost winter? Maybe because it's Florida the lemon yellow would work, but it's definitely more "summery" to me. What other colors were you considering before and why are you drawn to the navy and yellow? Maybe we can help you there. Are there specific things you saw with navy and yellow or certain flowers you want, etc that fit into that color scheme? Not really sure on how to make the Man of Honor different in some way, but I'm sure someone here can suggest something! ;)

So sorry you are already havind drama with your shower! I have 7 girls, my sister being my MOH and they all want to participate and be in charge so I stepped in behind the scenes. I write the emails playing nice and my sister sends them. I would suggest if youre only having 1 shower and they all need to be involved, to decide which one you wnt to be in charge and let them run it. Maybe the other two can be in charge of something else. Maybe a bridesmaids lunch in Disney before the wedding, your bachelorette, etc. Let them each take one and tell them to play nice. Good luck with that! :goodvibes

Yeah, its pretty hectic , but I really like your idea about the having each person in charge in different cities!!! Because they all do live in different states, and that is probably why there is drama! Oh Well, I might have to bring that up Thanks so much for the advice!

I am actually flying up to NYC this weekend to look for a dress for my mom as well as find shoes and Jewelry for the big day!!!! Im very excited!!!! So when I get back we are going to start to work on addressing the STDs and then send them out. I am hoping to send them out by April 2 :):):):):) Very Stoked!!!!!! The other colors Im considering is Navy and Apple Green and I am also leaning towards more of a "vintagy" (is that a word???) wedding, but I definitely want to use Navy! That is what color my girls dresses are so I def. need to stick with that color! But we will see!!!!!

You also bring up a good point about about having them be in charge with different parties!!!! Thanks so much for the advice :cool1:
 
Today I sent my bridesmaids an e-mail regarding their dresses!!!! Im really excited! :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes

They are going to need to order their dresses by May 1st, so they will get them in September. I feel like that is sufficient time to receive them and get them altered!!!! Lula Kate is the designer, she does AMAZING things!!! So I picked out 3 different tops and one bottom. So the girls can choose which dress top they like the best!!!! I gave them a choice of a strapless, a one strap and one 2 strap!!! The color will be navy and the fabric is Diupioni. I received all positive feedback from the girls, which is always a good thing!!!!
This weekend, I am flying up to NYC to meet my parents so we can go shopping for the wedding!!!! I need to look for shoes and jewelry. Jacksonville shopping isn't that great and I would really like my parents to be there when I am looking for the shoes and Jewelry. We are also going to look for a dress for my mom!!! My future mother-in-law is getting antsy about finding a dress, but she knows my mom needs to get hers first!!!!!! ;) I will post pictures of the Shoes and Jewelry when I get back =) Wish me Luck!!!!!!
 
The Bridesmaids dresses sound gorgeous! I can't wait to see pics!

And what part of Jax are you from? I grew up in Orange Park!

I just checked out Lula Kate! I'd never heard of her before, but I LOVE her.. Great idea! I'm glad the idea about putting your VIPs in charge of different things helps. I know its really relieved some drama-mama for me! :)

VirtuousGirl.. I know I have encountered more drama after those posts, it got even crazier, but its over now! GEEZ! The wedding planning isn't stressful, its some of the people in my wedding! I never thought that would have been the case =/.... I am a Medical ICU nurse. what is your specialty?!!?!?
