I just received an e-mail from DU regarding the REAS package. It previously included the couples massage, turn down, Palo reservations, champagne breakfast, and the gift basket. NOW, the couples massage is OUT and the rainforest is IN. I may be canceling our REAS.

How does everyone else feel about this?

When is your cruise? We haven't heard anything about the change. I'm within the 105 day window and have already booked the couples massage.

If this is true, I'm cancelling ours. We have no desire to use the rainforest room, plus it makes the package grossly expensive for what you get.

Sorry, I forgot to put our sail dates - 5/27/06. I don't know when this goes into effect, but I know it's changed for our sailing.

Admiral Boom - I'm right with you. I don't think that $339 is justified with the rainforest. I may be cancelling, too.

We LOVE the rainforest, but you are right....not at all close to being worth the money for the REAS. My guess is that so many people were buying the REAS just to be able to make the priority reservations, they are trying to cut down on that issue. I know that is why we purchased it on our first two cruises.

I saw another thread about this earlier this weekend. I believe the change happens in January 2006. So if you have a 2005 cruise booked you will be getting the massage.

Hope this helps.

We did REAS back in December '04 and through it was worth it at $299 with the couples massage. With the higher price and Rainforest Room only I don't think we'll be booking it again.

After DCL started online ressies for Palo's I decided to cancel our REAS pkg. I mainly booked it for the early ressie option. DH wasn't too thrilled about the massage, so I figured since we are repeat cruisers that we'd still have a good chance of getting our Palo's ressies 90 days out. With the change to the Rainforest, I don't think that REAS is worth it now.

We have a 4-night Wonder cruise booked for this January and haven't heard a thing about this change!

We just did the REAS package in May. There was no change at that time and we weren't advised of any upcoming changes at that time. If I had to do it again, I probably wouldn't book it for the $$'s charged.

I don't really like the online ressies. So many people have problems with it and not to mention there are still lots of people who don't have daily access to computers. Doesn't seem fair to them. I understand many are told they can use Public Library computers. But then again, if you don't go to the Library, it doesn't fit into their lifestyle. I think we should still be able to call in.

Does anyone know the cost of the rainforest room? I could not find information on the DCL website. I did find this:

Well Being Massage for Couples

Created from ten cultural touches around the world the well being massage is both therapeutic and relaxing. A relaxing and romantic escape for couples. Booking tip: Reserve this treatment under the name of just one member of the couple.
Duration 50 min

Price $242

I am curious to see how these compare cost-wise. We did the REAS last year, but I doubt we would do it again with this replacement.

We are going to go on a cruise for our Honeymoon next year. I was going to book this as a surprise for my H2B. I don't think I am going to now.

The <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:place w:st="on"><?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com /><st1:PlaceName w:st=Tropical</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st=" /><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Rainforest</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Pass</st1:PlaceType></st1:place> is normally $75 per person for a 7 night cruise (so $150 total) It is basically a steam/sauna with fragrances that you can enter at anytime while it’s open on the ship.

That comes right from my TA at Dreams. Doesn't seem to add up to be worth $339 in my checkbook.

Just wanted to let all you REAS people know that I just called Disney. I was a little concerned beause when I booked my REAS it still showed the Couples Massage, and I wanted to see what I was actually going to get. (My cruise isn't till Jan.), and they told me that it would in fact be the Rainforest room instead of the Massage. I told her that I was a little concerned about the cost being different since the massage is a bit more expensive, so she put me on hold to check and see if they were adding anything new to make up for it, and she told me that they were not. So just so you know...it is what it is, and it doesn't look like they are adding anything or compensating for the difference! Just wanted to let you all know!

From what I understand the package is still the same for the people cruising in 2005. It doesn't change until Jan 2006. At least it better not since we cruise in 40 days. I will be highly ticked if they changed it for us.

And everyone on the other thread said that the 7 day rainforest is $75/person so $150. I liked to know where the other $92 is going towards now.

I honestly don't know of anyone who would spend some time each of the 7 days in the rainforest to get the full value of that "benefit" of the REAS. DCL is looking to make a profit. It looks like they will instead greatly reduce the demand of this package.

Answer: Mickey!

It's pure economics 101: Supply and Demand. Someone, in their infinite wisdom has determined that the cruise market won't support a higher price on REAS and that Disney can sell more than enough couples massages without having to offer them in a package. So replace the couples massage with a less expensive, under-utilized service without raising the price of the package. Voila, they've still sold couples massages (the most expensive thing in the package) and can still provide the other services (without a lot of cost to DCL).

That's what I asked when I called, and they couldn't give me an answer. The lady that I spoke with was thinking that maybe they had added something extra to the basket, but when she checked they have not, so she couldn't give me an answer about the cost, especially when I told her that we were on the 4-night cruise and there was no way that the Rainforest Room could add up to be the same as the Couple's Massage.
She told me that she thought that maybe no one was reserving the Couple's Massage, and maybe that was why they changed it, but I still don't understand the issue with the pricing differences.
