Really Scared!!!!

Oh god that not good as the time difference from Chicago is 6 hours so if i start school at 8.00 it wil be 3 at home and my bf will still be in college so by the time i get out of school it will be like 10.00 at home. So i may have to ring during break.

What happens if u get caught with a phone at your school.

Usually, if the teacher or whoever catches you calling someone during school hours/texting...

First Time: Warning (since you're new, they'll be easy on you the first time)
Second Time: Phone gets taken away

My break is usually two weeks at Christmas. Usually the Friday before Christmas is a half day and the break starts then.
And usually a few days afater New Years we go back.

That is well strict. I sit for the whole day or for like a week?

It depends on the school. Some say after a certain date you can have the phone back, some it's the end of the day. Some schools even make you bring in a parent to pick it up!

My teachers just threaten to take it.
They rarely do. If they do, it's the end of the day.
If they don't take it, they're being nice. But sometimes they hold you in during break.

hey, i'm bianca and i live in chicago also. and i found this for you straight from the CPS website : WINTER VACATION - Schools close at the end of the school day on Friday, December 19, 2008 and reopen on Monday, January 5, 2009. i'm guessing you were wondering about that right? anyways, i'm entering eighth grade, but i'm going to high school in 2009.

yeh thanks. that means i wont miss any school hopefully.

I really hope that dont take my phone. How are the detentions different?

Also do u have like specific uniform for pe?

My school lets you wear basically whatever for PE, within reason. Some schools have a uniform; others don't.

I've never been in detention, so I can't answer that one :D

First of all, are you attending a public chicago high school? If you are, yes, they have rules about cell phones. I suggest you try to keep it hidden because once they find out you have a phone, they take it away the next time they see it. The only way you can get it back is by your parents coming to the school's office to retrieve it. Yes, we do have a uniform for PE, but nothing bad really. Just sweatpants or basketball shorts. Athletic clothes basically.
ohh & about detentions, it depends on really what you've done. you can get just 2 detentions then get suspended from school, or 5 detentions and get suspended. it really all depends on what you did. but i'm pretty sure you're aren't a fighter, right? lol.

We don't have uniforms but there are rules to follow. Like it has to be shorts or sweat pants. They can't be denim. You have to have sneakers... long hair has to be tied.
And you lose points for participation if you're not dressed properly.

yes i am going to a public school. i love basketball shorts so i can live with that.

Is it ok to be nervous about going up to people and speaking to them on the first day?

well thanks for telling me that, i wanted to know since there's a couple of public high schools that only accept academically advanced people, i just wanted you to know that when you're looking for schools.
& it's perfectly fine to be nervous, i'd be nervous too if i was moving over to england and being in completely new school, anddd country. but i'm sure they'll love your lovely accent.

thanks for the info.

All my best friends and bf are coming to see me off as my parents got out before me so they are coming down to the airport with me.

Do u get any free periods?

I dunno what it's like in Chicago but you only get free periods here in like senior year, and that's if you have like all of your credits and don't need another class...

that's really nice of them, i'm sure this is really really tough for you, but hey, chicago isn't quite bad. i'm sure you'll enjoy this place that i've called home for my entire life. anyways, there's one free period which is from 45 minutes to an hour long, something like that. but they call it 'study hall'.

Usually there are no free periods.

and go here: collegeboard.com for SAT/college information. and act.org for ACT information. Both are college admission tests and if you plan on going to college in the US one or the other is required.

yes i planning to go to university in the us.

i will at least be able to say bye to people that are not going to my six form as i am having a massive party before i leave.

I am also going to come home as much as i can as my elder sister is staying and all my other family is here so after christmas i am going to spend like 6 weeks here next summer.

When are the SAT?

Their is usually one about every month during the school year. I think the next one you can register for is Oct 4th, but you have to register sometime in August I believe.

For the ACT I believe their is also one in October, the September ones registration just ended yesterday so yeah. Since your a junior I would recomend waiting to take your first SAT/ACT untill December or to get your baseline score. Then you know what you need to improve on and can take it again later on in the spring.
