Really High Pin Price on Ebay

Thought this group would find this interesting - the Ohio State/Michigan rivals pin I have been looking for is currently under very hot and heavy bidding on Ebay. At this post, the price is up to $102.50

It's like watching a train wreck - I can't seem to take my eyes off of it even though there is no way I am jumping into the mix.

It is like several years ago when three newbies were bidding against each other for a WDW CM Steamboat Willie, which there are probably over 100,000 of them out there. Every CM who completes a year gets one. The final selling price was over $200, when they would normally go in the $25-$30 range.

My friend really would like to have a certain Belle pin, but every time it goes up for auction it sells for $80 - $100. Craziness. I love collecting and trading pins, but I could never bring myself to pay THAT much for a single piece.

Some days a pin will go for $2.00 the next week it will go for $30.00. It's all part of supply and demand, who nees to complete a collection and who hapens to be on with the right amount of money.

Yeah.. I'm new to ebay, but I got some of the pixie dust pins very inexpensively a few wks ago, this last wk and this wk? They are going for a bunch more.

Some of the basics of ebay that people overlook:

1. Ebay is not a competition. Alot of people view it as such and sit by their computers bidding. This is what drives prices up.

2. Look at the shipping rates, determine a max price you will pay and put that bid in. i do suggest bidding in off numbers. For example if you bid $15.00, which is pretty common whole number, bid $15.07.

3. If it sells today it will be listed again tomorrow or next week.

4. Use the watch list and bid late. Ebay even sends you email alerts that the item is ending soon.
