First off, dont read this if your eating.
I know we as parents always hope the **unthinkable** will never happen to us, but once in a lifetime (hopefully not more than that) it might happen to each and every one of you. I just wanted to share that when it does; Disney is READY for it!
OK heres the story, in all its horror.
My son is Autistic. He's 9 years old and has Asperger's Syndrome. BUT This COULD happen to anyone, autistic or not. On our first evening at the world, we unpacked, and headed to Boma for a buffet. It was SOOOOOOOO GOOOOOD!!!
We were boarding the bus as my son said "I need to go to the bathroom." We had already waited about 25-30 minutes for a bus to finally arrive, so when he said this JUST AS we were walking up onto the bus, we just said "We'll get to a bathroom as soon as we get to the Magic Kingdom." We figured it wouldnt take but a few minutes, and he could hold it.
~~~~~~How many times have YOU said THAT before to YOUR children???~~~~~~~~~~~~
Anyways, he doesn't have a history of accidents, and although it happened many times when he was much younger, it has been many years since it did, so we had no reason to expect what happened. As he sat down on the bus, suddenly the smell on the bus got REALLY bad. I knew the unthinkable had just happened to us. There was NOTHING we could do at that point. The bus was already on the larger road, and we had a good 10-15 minutes of "the smell" to deal with. We finally arrived at MK. We hurried him to the restroom outside MK (I'll never again forget where THAT restroom is!!!) and he made a heck of a mess in the stall.
He's 9. He refused to allow us to help him. He's too big for help. Finally he realized he was in over his head. The big D (and I dont mean Dallas
) was on his shoes, socks, shorts, shirt, the stall, EVERYWHERE. A really nice young castmember was quick to offer assistance. I cleaned the stall as he cleaned my sons clothes. He even handwashed his socks, and dried them for him. He returned with a huge amount of supplies just for the emergency, and he had plenty of special cleaners and disenfectants on hand. He washed all his clothes, and dried all them, and bagged up the ones too "far gone" to wear in special bags and tied them shut. Overall, he was in the restroom with us nearly 45 minutes, and he got a castmember to let me into MK (without use of a park entrance ticket) so i could buy my son a clean pair of shorts. (Only ONE pair in ALL of WDW I may add, and they were quite expensive) We finished cleaning the floor, toilet, and stall and left for the resort. You couldnt blame anyone really. Something he ate just didnt set well at all, and who knows but what he didnt get something "bad" or something he was allergic to (he's not allergic to anything we know of). My meal was superb, apparently his wasnt as good. He says he will never go to Boma again,
but Id go back in a second.
The point is, the castmember was VERY quick to help. his job nearly turned MY stomach, and I'M a PLUMBER!!!, and he did it all with a smile and friendly conversation. I called the MK the following day and gave him rave reviews. He was a lifesaver in a very bleak moment of our trip.
My point in this thread was that accidents CAN happen, and WDW was, in our case, prepared for it. The castmember DID say one thing interesting... he said "At least YOU stayed to help. Most of the time when I see a mess like this the culprits are already long gone."
