First off, dont read this if your eating.:goodvibes
I know we as parents always hope the **unthinkable** will never happen to us, but once in a lifetime (hopefully not more than that) it might happen to each and every one of you. I just wanted to share that when it does; Disney is READY for it!
OK heres the story, in all its horror.
My son is Autistic. He's 9 years old and has Asperger's Syndrome. BUT This COULD happen to anyone, autistic or not. On our first evening at the world, we unpacked, and headed to Boma for a buffet. It was SOOOOOOOO GOOOOOD!!!
We were boarding the bus as my son said "I need to go to the bathroom." We had already waited about 25-30 minutes for a bus to finally arrive, so when he said this JUST AS we were walking up onto the bus, we just said "We'll get to a bathroom as soon as we get to the Magic Kingdom." We figured it wouldnt take but a few minutes, and he could hold it.

~~~~~~How many times have YOU said THAT before to YOUR children???~~~~~~~~~~~~
Anyways, he doesn't have a history of accidents, and although it happened many times when he was much younger, it has been many years since it did, so we had no reason to expect what happened. As he sat down on the bus, suddenly the smell on the bus got REALLY bad. I knew the unthinkable had just happened to us. There was NOTHING we could do at that point. The bus was already on the larger road, and we had a good 10-15 minutes of "the smell" to deal with. We finally arrived at MK. We hurried him to the restroom outside MK (I'll never again forget where THAT restroom is!!!) and he made a heck of a mess in the stall. :scared: He's 9. He refused to allow us to help him. He's too big for help. Finally he realized he was in over his head. The big D (and I dont mean Dallas:lmao: ) was on his shoes, socks, shorts, shirt, the stall, EVERYWHERE. A really nice young castmember was quick to offer assistance. I cleaned the stall as he cleaned my sons clothes. He even handwashed his socks, and dried them for him. He returned with a huge amount of supplies just for the emergency, and he had plenty of special cleaners and disenfectants on hand. He washed all his clothes, and dried all them, and bagged up the ones too "far gone" to wear in special bags and tied them shut. Overall, he was in the restroom with us nearly 45 minutes, and he got a castmember to let me into MK (without use of a park entrance ticket) so i could buy my son a clean pair of shorts. (Only ONE pair in ALL of WDW I may add, and they were quite expensive) We finished cleaning the floor, toilet, and stall and left for the resort. You couldnt blame anyone really. Something he ate just didnt set well at all, and who knows but what he didnt get something "bad" or something he was allergic to (he's not allergic to anything we know of). My meal was superb, apparently his wasnt as good. He says he will never go to Boma again, :rotfl2: but Id go back in a second.
The point is, the castmember was VERY quick to help. his job nearly turned MY stomach, and I'M a PLUMBER!!!, and he did it all with a smile and friendly conversation. I called the MK the following day and gave him rave reviews. He was a lifesaver in a very bleak moment of our trip.
My point in this thread was that accidents CAN happen, and WDW was, in our case, prepared for it. The castmember DID say one thing interesting... he said "At least YOU stayed to help. Most of the time when I see a mess like this the culprits are already long gone."
He should be commended in a big way. Seems as if he went above and beyond what many would have done to help.
I'm going to remember this story when I hear complaints about CMs.
Wow my God I am so sorry that happened to you :( We had a similar thing happen at Universal with our 5 yr old but it was #1 and we had to buy a bathing suit for him since they had no pants, underwear or shorts.....I think that it happens more than they realize and that they should stock some of the nessesities. Of course it happens once to a parent and we carried a spare bathing suit with us the rest of the trip (they have the built in 'underwear' sort of).
I couldnt have said it better! He deserves a BIG pay raise for THAT night! I took it by the conversation that its a pretty common thing, and he does that sort of job a lot more than you might imagine.
I'm so sorry for your ds that happened. Do remember, anyone can have an accident. To share something gross--last summer I had a similar accident. Fortunately I was just in my car coming home. I couldn't hold it, made a mess of the car, "dripped" all over the house trying to get to the bathroom, had to shower, wash all my clothes. I'm an adult! I had a large ice cream that had that effect on me. DH was so understanding. He just took the car to a detail place, they cleaned and deodorized it (needed professional help at that point!).
Anyone can have an accident. I'm glad the CM helped and also glad you didn't get mad at your child. Remember, no one feels worse than the guy it happened to!
BTW, I always carry a change of clothes even now for my kids in the van. Stuff happens!
That CM was really nice. DS, then 1, came down with the most AWFUL stomach bug...it all started in the Brown Derby...just awful, messy, oh God, I still remember it vividly..the clothes, the ride on the bus back to the resort, the stroller (it happened repeatedly trying to get back to the resort). The smell of lysol, which I used liberally that week, still brings back the memories.
We still had a great trip though:thumbsup2
One of my daughters has stomach issues and can throw up without any notice! Things had been going really well on one of our trips 2 years ago, but suddenly, in the middle of the "Perfectly Princess Tea Party", while dressed to the nines, she projectile vomited EVERYWHERE! :eek: She was quite upset as I tried to quickly escort her out, but did it again in the lobby of the GF! The CMs were absolutely wonderful! They did not even flinch, but went right to work cleaning and disinfecting. They even talked to her and told her it was okay, kids throw up all the time! There was a spot of it near the door, covered in a napkin. Sleeping Beauty herself came over to see if DD was okay. She saw the napkin on the floor and thought someone dropped it :scared: She picked it up, realized what it was covering and just replaced the napkin and said nothing. She really put my DD at ease. My DD ended up being okay, and it really helped that all the CMs and Sleeping Beauty remained calm!:love:
