Really good restaurants?

We LOVE the CA Grill at WDW and enjoyed Boma and such also. How does dining compare at DL? Is there a CA Grill comparative? Who has great food in a fun atmosphere?

Are Priority Seatings hard to get at DL? Can the concierge take care of those for us?

Oh, and we're 2 A, 3 middle to high school age kids.

Disneyland is much smaller than WDW so you don't have the variety of restaurants. Of course there is House of Blues and Rainforest Cafe in DD. IF you are there after June 25 you should try the Blue Bayou. You get to watch the boats launch for the POTC ride. We always like that and the food is good. There are some places at DC to eat and Grand California resort has the character buffet meal. We have never eaten here. Disney hotel has Goofeys Kitchen. It is a nice character buffet as well. My kids liked it when they were little.

The Blue Bayou s one we want to try. We went a few years ago and saw it from the ride and thought it looked so neat. I'm glad to hear the food is good. Can we make a reservation there for a dinner or is it first come, first serve?

You can make priority seating for Blue Bayou. It is a lot of fun, and good but it's not as nice as the restaurants you mentioned at WDW. The restaurants at GCH are very nice as is Yamabuki in the Paradise Pier hotel. Overpriced, and you can get Japanese just as good close by but not on Disney property.

Napa Rose looked like just what my husband would like. But he likes fun too, so Blue Bayou is definately on my list as well!

Can kids eat off either a children's menu or the appetizer listings at Napa Rose? $30+ is one thing for an adult but far different for an 11 year old, even iff Disney considers 11 an adult!

The Blue Bayou is opening back up June 25 but they will not take ADR's until the middle of July. I called last week to make reservations for the end of June but could not.

I've found that Disney is usually pretty loose with the kids menu age. First off, they aren't likely to ask for ages. Even then, I've never found that they held to it closely for eating off the kids menu. At 11 or 12, my DS sometimes preferred to eat off kids menu. Last year, at 14, I took my DS to the buffet dinner at Storytellers at GCH and was charged kids price (quite a savings), even though I told the server that he was 14. I've also never had problems ordering just appetizers (for me or my son) at any Disney restaurant, although I've yet to try Napa Rose.

I agree that you won't find as many choices at DLR as WDW, but it's gotten much better over the past 8 years. In addition to the Disney hotels, DTD has some nice selections. Jazz Kitchen in DTD is very nice for food quality and atmosphere. I also recommend Blue Bayou, but don't expect it to have great food; it's good, but not great, especially compared to some of the many great WDW restaurants.

Disneyland definitely does not have the dining choices that WDW has. One place we enjoyed that was nice was Hook's Pointe at the Disneyland Hotel. There is also Granvilles at the DLH which is supposed to be nice. Blue Bayou is a lot of fun, I don't know of any other restaurant that has that type of atmosphere. The food is good, not gourmet but its been good every time we have eaten there. The other sit down option at Disneyland is the Carnation Cafe. Right on Main Street, they serve breakfast and lunch. You sit outside in a shaded area and have a great view of all the goings on of Main Street. We really enjoyed lunch there awhile back. You can make priority seatings 60 days out by calling: 714-781-3463. One nice thing about Disneyland, is that DTD is right there. So you have lots of nice dining choices there. We have enjoyed Tortilla Joes and Naples many times. They aren't in the park but only a five minute walk away. And California has much better weather and outside dining is available at many places in DTD and in the parks. I love to sit at Naples in the evenings on weekends, have dinner, some wine and listen to the live music playing right there at DTD.

One thing I do find at Disneyland is that there are nicer, more varied counter service options. French Market for instance has live jazz sometimes (on the weekends maybe?). The Riverbelle Terrace has a decent breakfast and you can sit outside and enjoy the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer's Island. Those are just two of the many places we have enjoyed cs at Disneyland. So to me the nicer counter service options make up for the lack of sit down options. Good luck with your planning!

Catal is probably my favorite restaurant on property. It is in Downtown Disney and has a wonderful atmosphere. Request a table by the fire...there are huge comfy chairs in that section of the restaurant. We also love going with huge groups and sitting on the balcony where we feel we can make a bit more noise without interupting others.


I have been to the Blue Bayou once and will probably never return. The food was cold and the chicken tasted like it just came off of an airplane. I wasn't impressed with the service either. It seemed they just wanted you to eat quickly so they could turn the table. I get enough of the atmopshere riding by on a boat. Others seem to love this place though...so they must be doing something right.

This weekend we ate at Storytellers and Napa Rose.....in fast we ate at both twice ....We went to Spago also.....Napa Vs Spago...The winner was Napa! The food was fantastic!

We really love Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen in DTD and Granville's Steakhouse in the DLH. The balcony seating at Brennan's is wonderful. I'm not a big fan of the House of Blues. I don't care for the food.

We love the Storytellers Restaurant at the Grand Californian. It is very kid friendly yet the food will be appreciated by teens and adults. There is a very good breakfast buffet similar to that found at WDW deluxe resorts. Breakfast can also be ordered off an menu.
