Is Mari gras the same day as fat Tuesday? And is Mari gras on a different Tuesday ever year? Does anyone know when it is in 2009? Thanks!

The French named it Mardi Gras, which means, Fat Tuesday. Mardi Gras is on a different Tuesday every year.

It's not a dumb question Those sorts of things can really impact your trip!

Here is what I found online:

Mardi Gras is always the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday (Ash Wednesday is always 40 days before Easter, not counting Sundays). So Mardi Gras would depend on what day Easter falls; since Easter is "early" this year, Mardi Gras in 2008 is on February 5th.

According to a site I searched, Mardi Gras is February 24th in 2009.

Fat Tuesday {Mardi Gras} is the last feast before Lent.

We are in New Orleans and will be in DW next week also.
We'll be there from Sat. feb. 2 - Sat. Feb. 9.
