Really considering cancelling/rescheduling trip...

There was no belittling going on ? There is always a refurb season in jan/Feb and the complaints happen every year around this time. Yes, it's annoying and frustrating for those who are making a once in a lifetime trip. All my point was that the upside is that you may be able to get more done and ride more.

While I agree with you that yes, this is always refurb season, I think it is the combination of even more rides than usual being down with the castle being covered. While we are not going during all of this mess, I can see people who are like us, and only go once every few years, if not only once or twice in their life, being frustrated, especially since Disneyland doesn't announce refurbs as early as most out of towners are planning trips.

That said, Sherry is correct in that at this point, there is little anyone can do but make their own decision whether to make the best of their trip (which will still be fun, but may not meet what their expectations were when booking the trip) or whether to cancel or reschedule.

I just don't agree with all those people saying "be positive" and "there's not an off-season" and "we go then for less lines" and blah-dee blah, like this is a completely normal occurrence. It discounts a real concern people have and isn't helpful to someone having a completely reasonable reaction.

Truth is, if you are planning a big trip around this time, there are a lot of things closed, the castle isn't available (and looks terrible) and it's a pain. There's no doubt about that, and people shouldn't belittle those who are upset about it or act like this is normal for the off-season, when we all know it's not.

But Sherry's right, if you're in that situation, your choices are basically to suck it up and make the best of it, or change your plans. You need to be realistic about whether you'd be able to have fun in the current situation, or spend your time looking at all the things you can't do but are still paying for and focusing on that. If that would be the case, and only YOU know what's right for YOU, you might want to reschedule.

I don't think that people are making light of the concerns and complaints but at the end of the day, what everyone is saying is correct. There are really only two things you can do.

You either cancel or you do not.

If you do not, you can go and worry about everything you are missing or you can go and enjoy everything you are experiencing.

People who are in the parks right now are talking about how low the crowds are and how short the lines are so that is at least one thing to be positive about.

I don't know what it is going to be like when we are there in just 10 days (YAY!) but I can tell you this, I am going to go with a positive attitude and enjoy everything that I can.

For those who say there is no off-season, I just have to disagree. Go in June. Then come back in February (President's Day excluded). Then tell me there's no off-season.

We used to go summer time only. The last three years we switched to Feb trips. Wait times are half as long or less. Its not even close.

Not to mention, other than the castle, the list from last refurb season was equally long compared to this year's. This year is not precedent-setting. Castle closure is a bummer, though.

You might have a different perception of what constitutes big crowds vs. what someone else perceives as big crowds. This is why we constantly see conflicting reports about crowd levels on this forum. People have different views and perceptions.

What I said on the previous page was, to the average guest, there is not much of an off-peak season anymore. (**Even the Cast Members in the parks say there is not much of an off season anymore, or that the windows of time for lower crowds are getting narrow.**)

The average guest in the parks sees crowds, and over the years the previously less busy times have become more crowded. Disney has added in special events and things to lure people in during those previously less busy times. There are more bodies in the parks now than there used to be during the so-called "slow" times of year, so it doesn't seem like there is much of an off-season anymore -- at least, it's not as significant in terms of reliably low(er) crowds anymore.

But by Disney's standards, figures and numbers, they still see lower attendance during certain times of year (spring and early fall -- basically, whenever it's not summer, a major holiday weekend, the holiday season or spring break), even if it seems crowded to the average guest, so to them it has to still be considered the off season, and the main time frame in which they get a lot of their refurbs done.

It's great if someone is expecting big crowds and then gets to the parks to find out that the crowds are not big. That's awesome! That's what we all hope for!

However, if someone goes in under the impression that the crowds are low, only to get there and find that the crowd level is not one that they personally perceive as low, then it's not a good thing. And this sort of thing happens all the time -- people come back and say, "I heard that it was a slow time and yet it was packed!"

If Disney's refurbishment list bothers you.......

And you have a trip booked you can not cancel or reschedule......

Then QUIT looking at it.
