where is a really cheap, but clean, offsite hotel close to WDW? we are thinking about going the day before our tickets start and staying offsite. this way we can drive all night (small children), go to downtown Disney, take a good nap, maybe go to Beaches & Cream (can we do this before we check in?) and relax a day for cheap before we our package days start. we did this 5 or 6 years ago and got the hojo on 192 for like $29 a nite. planning on maybe going around Christmas. any help appreciated
thanks

I would also like to know a good place to stay for the night we arrive. I want it to be clean and safe but we will really only be there to sleep for a few hours.

What is your definition of cheap? <$50, <$100. I think the days of a $29 night are gone. I would consider less than $100 cheap in Orlando now, though you may have a different idea.

We usually use Hotwire for 1 nighters. It's great that you can usually get a very nice place (like a Hyatt) for the same price as a Comfort Inn.
Just enter your dates, etc. and pick the "neighborhood" you want in Orlando. They give a map of each area so you know the general area where you'll be and you know how many stars the hotel rates, you just won't know the name of it. (Well, actually you will if you go to betterbidding.com. They can usually ID them. I've used their help 3 times and they were right each time.)
good luck! :goodvibes
I love HW for late flights into MCO. We got the Hyatt inside MCO for only $59 with HW! :)

I have gotten pretty close to $29/night on Hotwire- twice now. In January of 2007, I got the HoJo Maingate East (clean but very basic) for $30/night for 6 nights. This coming May, I got Extended Stay Deluxe LBV for $32/night for 3 nights. It gets pretty decent reviews on Tripadvisor- it's an all-suite hotel with kitchens in each room about 2 1/2 miles from DTD. I am pretty happy with the pics online for this place- I'd think it would be great for a 1-nighter.

yes, hoing for the $29 specials, found one for 33 a hojo on
orlandohotelscorp.com. just not sure of how reliable their rating scale is. just need somewhere safe and cheap for one nite. if not much cheaper than an all star, we would rather stay on site. i guess we realy want a 25-50 one or we would just stay at an all star. thanks for help.

My SIL came back from Disney several weeks ago. She stayed at the Royal Celebration Inn on Lake Cecile. It is a two star hotel and she was nervous about staying at a two star but she was VERY happy, she said it was very clean and there are jetskis you can rent for use on the lake there. It included free continental breakfast with several hot items each morning. She paid $30 per night.

I think that's a very good plan. We do the same thing -- stay off-site on our travel day, then get an early start and move in to our WDW hotel the next morning. It seems such a waste to spend what WDW charges for a hotel for anything less than a full day, and in many cases we can get in to our hotel early.

Hotwire/Priceline sounds like a very good idea, and if tourist numbers are down this year I can imagine you'll get some pretty good deals.
