Me and my DBF are looking to go for 7 nights in February. However to make it doable it needs to be incredibly cheap.

Can anyone recommend:

budget but reliable hotels in WDW/Universal area?
budget but reliable airlines?
websites which are known for cheap deals?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :goodvibes

Difficult to answer because there are no set sites to find cheap deals, its all about searching and finding the best price for your dates, could be any site, even sites known to be expensive have sales/offers and could be the cheapest for your dates.

For flights you need to check sites which scan multiple sites like Kayak.co.uk & Travelsupermarket.com Also check Charter flights on somewhere like charterflights.co.uk

Hotels are too many to mention, again Travelsupermarket is a good start.

Also don't rule out package holidays.

When you know your dates then find the best prices you can and post them then we can help try find better prices.

Thanks for the advice.

So far the best price we have actually found is for a package with lastminute.com

we want to go from february 9 - 16

and lastminute.com are quoting £592 for flights and hotel however the hotel does have some negative reviews. You can never tell when hotels have mixed reviews though as everyone has differing standards.

Of course then we would need tickets on top of that

Define budget ? How much are you willing to pay for a hotel room ?
The definition of budget is a very relative idea.

I always get one night offsite when I go to WDW. I book it through a TA as part of a flight+hotel package, as it often ends up being cheaper than booking flight + hotel separately.
Some TAs will allow you to have hotel stay dates different from flight dates. But I guess it won't matter to you.

Anyway I always spend my first night in Clarion Inn Lake Buena Vista.
Nice clean rooms, just off I4 (can get noisy if room is facing the interstate). The rooms are pretty much like the rooms at Disney's values, except they have fridge, microwave oven and coffeemaker. Restaurant onsite (breakfast buffet for $8 with usually a buy one get one free, length of stay voucher at check in, so 2 adult very hearty breakfast for $8)
It's on palm parkway, very close to the entrance of the "mickey zone" (as my son calls it) north of Downtown Disney and hotel plaza boulevard.
Restaurants within walking distance include Cici's Pizza, Sizzler, Pizza Hut, Denny's, McDonalds, Burger King, IHOP, Olive Garden, Domino's Pizza (and many others, plus Domino's delivery at front desk)

rates for february are at £55+tax (12.5%) for a standard room (2 queen beds), and there is a special rate (non refundable, non exchangable, advance payment, need to signup for program) at £47+tax

That's how low I'd get as far as budget.

You can find better deals looking at things like Motel 6 at Main Gate in Kissimee. (off US192) at rates as low as $36 per night (+13% tax) but I'd personally avoid that. Not the hotel per se, but the US192 area which I consider to be a cutthroat for foreigners at night. That's the kind of place that makes you feel uneasy when you realise that your foreign accent paints a wide "tourist" target on your back. DW who only speaks french didn't dare speak to me the whole time we were waiting for a pizza outside of pizza hut, too many weirdos and winos and probably some pushers too. I bet strong british accent would have the same effect.

Also consider that you'll have to deal with transportation, and that hotel shuttle to parks might be painful and stressful to deal with.
Some operate on limited schedule and if you miss your shuttle, it's taxi full fare and nothing else.

for budget but reliable airlines, I always go with the big 4s (AA, US, DL, UA) they're not really budget, even though shopping around can get you great fares. We saved over £200/250 per person just by selecting a flight schedule and looking every morning on the internet until discounted seats were released. 2 days later price had gone up £200, so it's also really hit and miss.

Is that from Manchester?

VA would be £531pp possibly come down in a sale but you would have to be patient. Don't suppose you have any VA miles already? 2,000 miles would bring the cost down to £457pp

Hotels a little early to book for best prices yet.

Do you mean $'s there not £'s? If £'s that is expensive for the Clarion, A few years since we stayed there now but we paid £20/night incl tax, still see it under £30/nt, just now best I can see for these dates is £35/night(Alpharooms.com) incl but as I say a bit early, many agents have not released next years prices yet.
We usually stay in good hotels like Fairfield, Hampton Inn, Country Inn & Suites etc, book at the right time and you can usually pick up a deal between £20-30/nt incl Wifi & breakfast.

I do mean £ (Quids)
It's official hotel website rack rate price. I agree that it's expensive, but as you said, discounted or negociated prices are not all up yet for 2013.
This is just to set a base (or upper limit) so that OP can have a comparison point with any upcoming discounts, deals or offers.

Actually, booking flight+hotel for october got me a room for 2 adults + 1 kid(4), including taxes AND Breakfast buffet for us 3, for only 25€ (£20.8) per night

But you can't know how good a discounted price is without knowing the rack rate

Does it have to be Feb?

There have been some fantastic bargains most April/May school terms for the last few years. There have been numerous 14 night deals for around 280 if you are relatively flexible on dates.

Take advantage while you have no kids is all I can say!
