I can't believe that I'm in tears over this, but I had so much fun at DIS CON I, that I'm really upset/disappointed that I might not be attending DIS CON II. Here's the situation: I'll be (finally!) graduating from college in the spring, and plan on spending next summer traveling and just relaxing. Then, next fall, I'll be looking for a job. So far, I haven't had any luck finding a job that will allow time off that quickly after starting, especially during the holidays. Although it's still early, the possibilities don't look good. Trust me, I've looked!

I'm so bummed that I won't be able to attend DIS CON II! Unless, someone can point me in the direction of an employer looking to hire a person with a B.S. in Management with loads of experience working in retail, and wants to go to WDW in December? If anybody could point me in that direction, that would be greatly appreciated! The other option is to postpone my job search until after DIS CON, but, because of the whole (lack of) income situation, that possibility isn't the greatest. Any suggestions?

Debi, I agree that things sound bleak for you. :( But I am a firm believer in 'riding out the storm' and 'letting the chips fall where they may' and I feel that it's just too soon to be tearing up about this. So, so much could change between now and then. You just need to have faith.

I'll send a little *magical* ~*~pixie dust~*~ your way to help out of these 'blues' :)

Merry Christmas Debi. I hope the New Year brings you a wonderful job in the fall......with time off for DIS-Con 2. :) :) :)

Thank you, luvdsny. I'm really hoping that you're right about chips falling where they may, and that things will work out for the best. Keep your fingers crossed! :)

I know this may sound a little nuts, but every time I've been offered a job and I had a vacation in the works for a month or two down the road, I've told the employer that I've had a trip in the works for a year or more...here are the dates....and can we work around it. Because I certainly wouldn't want to lose the money that I've already invested in the vacation.

Works every time. ;) Course it may just be my innate charm.

I'm sure things will work out for you Debi. When you wish upon a star......

That would make a great topic of discussion during the interview. "I have a vacation scheduled for the holiday season, when a lot of people are taking off. I know I'm the low man (er, woman) on the todem pole, but can we work around these dates?" Grrr....I wish it were simple!

I waited until I got the job, then mentioned I had a trip planned for a yr, and if it was ok with them, I woul like to go ahead with my plans, no pay of course, and my boss ok'd it wince I gave 3 months notice. Chuck started work in my company in Oct, and asked for the week of the Dis Con, and it was granted, and Dec is usually a no time off month, but because it was already a planned trip, he got the time off, that surprised me because that would have made 2 employee ( I already had permission to take off to go to the Convention, but was told not to expect it next yr if it was a Dec vacation) I think usually, if plans are made along time in advance, and you tell them right away, most employers are ok with it. I just had my yearly review yesterday, and my boss gave me a high grade for giving afew months notice before I take off time, Inever expected that since I was taking off afew of the no time off days. So don't be discourged, you may be surprised.

OK ! I confess !!!!! I all ready know I won't be at DIS CON II either:( Boo Hoo)

It really is time for us to spend Thanksgiving at Dave's Mom's in So Cal. The bright side is we will be doing a trip after thanks giving to DL:D , and to soften the blow of not being there.....I think I will take the plunge and stay on site !

Lucky you, Judy! Although it's not WDW, DL is a close second.

Dee, I'm seriously thinking about doing just that: getting a job, then telling them that I have this trip planned, and request the time off. Keep your fingers crossed that it'll work, because most of the places I'm looking to work have December as a "no-vacation-month." Keep all fingers and toes crossed! :)
