really basic SW question

I should really know the answer to this by now...but double checking.. I need to set up a flight to take my daughter to see a college. Problem is, I have a court date I'm trying to get out of for the same week. If I book using RR points, and cant get out of my court date, can I cancel and the points go back to my account no problem? I know if I use cash to pay I would get a credit good for a year, which I may never get to use. But if I use points is there no consequence to cancelling? My husband may be able to take my place on the trip, and I know they won't switch a name on a ticket, so I could I cancel, have the points go back in my acct. and then rebook for my husband with the same points?

Yes, the points go back to your account, same as before you used them. You could book your husbands ticket based on the current number of points required.

I happened to check my May flights last week and one was 1300 points less. Went in and did a change and got them returned to my account.

thanks. now im really annoyed with myself, because I delayed booking worrying about my court date and the prices and point costs have skyrocketed. I should have asked earlier.
