So if I book a room today for a couple weeks from now, and afterwards cancel a room for the same night, will MS later reallocate my holding points for the cancellation to my news booking and free up my current points from the booking? hope this makes sense...

If you are canceling a room for the same night at only a couple weeks out, then no. You would still fall under the holding points rule of canceling less than 30 days out.

If you are canceling at more than 30 days out, and the new reservation is still available to be booked at less than 60 days out, you should be able to reallocate holding points for current points.

By doing a reallocation it's kind of like cancelling the points from the other reservation so you would just end up with more points in holding. You would need to cancel the one room and then you could use those points in holding to book a the other room.

If you book today for a reservation less than 60 days out and then cancel a reservation less than 31 days out to end up with holding, there is a chance that MS might reallocate those holding points into the newly booked room. Holding points can only be used for reservations booked 60 days or less out and the room you book today would meet those guidelines so I think you could ask them to do this for you.

If I'm understanding you correctly, no. If you cancel one thing THEN book another that's within th 60 day window they will use the holding account points first. If you have a reservation that's more than 30 days but within 60 days that is either the same home resort or made at or after the 7 month window then they should be able to reallocate potentially freeing up bankable or less restricted points. Even if it was made at the 11 month window you can sometimes accomplish the same thing by booking any available nights and then canceling the corresponding nights from the existing reservation.

The moment has passed, but in the interest of knowing for the next time... booked BWV for 1 night,-- I think right at the beginning of 7 month window...for feb 2016. A few days ago, poly became available for that night, but I did't want to use my current points and risk not being able to use the points going into holding from the cancellation. I also did't want to cancel BWV first because I know the poly room won't stick around long, and then I wouldn't have either.....So I was hoping since the poly booking would be booked within the 60 day mark I could later have MS reallocate the holding points. They were closed while this was transpiring. The opportunity went away in about 15 minutes, but probably would have been sooner because I was holding the room as long as I could waiting for an answer. Thanks.

For that situation outside 30 days they should have been able to reallocate and free up the other points. There is a way to cancel and book at the same time using 2 different browsers that reduces the risk but I haven't done it.

Ok thanks-- but outside 30 days the points wouldn't be in holding anyway, so no need to re allocate in this instance....I was thinking about using two browsers, but have never done it and was nervous. It makes sense that if one is holding the res the other could cancell....

2 browsers would have been the only way to do that and not have points end up in holding since it was less than 30 days out. Actually I use 2 separate devices, not 2 browsers if making a change that I want to use points from a different reservation. With a sometimes glitchy system it can still be a risk though.

If the Poly room keeps coming an going, this would be a perfect situation for a waitlist with instructions to cancel an existing reservation and use those points if the waitlist comes through. That way, there would be no holding points and there would be no risk of not having either room.

Of course, that assumes the waitlist works properly and "snags" the Poly room for your waitlist before anyone else books it if one does become available.

Yeah that would make a lot of sense. ( the wait list)-- oddly enough, the balance of this trip is at AKV club--- and the day in question was wait listed for AKV club--- and my wait list came in two days ago--- so glad I didn't change.
