Reallocating points once reservation is made?

Since many of you are far more experienced in dealing with Member Services than this lowly newbie, I thought I'd ask for some insight.

If I have enough points to cover a reservation, but then transfer additional points into my account. Can Member Services reallocate the transferred points into my reservation so I can then bank the current UY points that were originally used to make the reservation?

Does anyone even understand the paragraph I just typed? Tanks for any help you could give. :goodvibes

It depends on whether you used the home resort advantage to book the reservation. If you did, then the newly acquired points will need to be for that same resort. If you booked inside of 7 months then it shouldn't matter. HOWEVER, I have definitely had MS agents who were much more familiar with the whole process than others. When you call if you seem to be speaking with someone who is not too knowledgeable on this process then call back or ask to speak to a supervisor. Good luck!

The answer is maybe. Depends on the when you made the reservation (during home resort priority or not) and if so, what the home resort of the transferred points is compared to what you have already. If made at 7 months or less it doesn't matter and you should be able to reallocate them at will. Even if you can't, you could make separate reservations for any days that are available with the new points and cancel any corresponding days of your current reservation moving around any points you needed to get the bankable ones back. You'll still need to be ahead of your banking window. Remember transferred points can be banked as well.

Thanks for the quick response Jean! Okay, here's a follow-up question to that. If it is a home resort reservation and the transferred points are from another resort, does that mean I just have to wait until the seven-month mark to reallocate (which would still be within my banking window)?

I thought I had read that transferred points had to remain in their UY (i.e. no banking or borrowing), am I completely wrong on that?

The reservation would definitely be made during my home resort window. So does that mean I won't be able to reallocate using other resorts' transferred points until after the seven-month mark, or I wouldn't be able to use those transferred points at all?

You should be able to reallocate if it's the same home resort but it's possible you may be told no, if so, just call back and get someone else. If it's a different home resort and the reservation is made within the priority window, you will not be able to reallocate them at all but can use plan B I mentioned above. Another option is to make only a portion of your reservation then add to it later.

Thanks Dean. :worship: I think my best bet is to try and find points to transfer in that are from my home resort.

Yes, same resort transferred in points are the only way to secure the reservation you have. I just did it this week.

I had made a BWV Oct 2012 reservation at the 11 month window. This Sept my DB's family and mine are sharing a THV that I reserved. Last month he paid me for his share of the stay with BWV points. I called MS and the CM was very helpful it changing out my BWV points with the transferred in BWV points for the Oct stay. She totally understood why I was doing this. You cannot see transferred in points online, it is so much easier to use your own points for future reservations than to use the transferred in points.

You can only reallocate using non-home resort points at seven months if there's still inventory for what you want. It wouldn't be fair to be able to reserve at eleven months using home points, and then just switch them out for other points.

Also, you can bank transferred points, but you can't borrow them. You can't transfer banked or borrowed points.
