Reality has absolutely no place in our world...a colorful TR update 2/27/07

I have flown SW over a hundred times & have asked dozens of times if I could take an earlier flight (at no additional $). Happened only once. Glad it happened for you on a Disney trip.

Oh & if you get the dreaded "C" ticket (& want to sit together), you almost always have to STAND at the front of the C line for 30 + min. to ensure it. Again, good on you (in getting two seats together).

As someone posted upthread, it's really neat to hear about a young couple's first trip(s) together. Hope it went good for you.

Must admit I'm jealous wish DH & I could have went when we were younger, crazier and childless! Should've insisted we go to WDW for our honeymoon instead of the mountains like DH insteaded (like WDW doesn't have enough mountians??)

Waiting for more! Isn't work still slow? :rolleyes1

Work is almost always slow for me. I was on a job hunt for my bf and my brother but I'm back now with one last installment before I leave work.

We arrived at MCO and I can't tell you how much I love this airport. (Did I mention I love airports in general? I'm very odd, I know this.) When I went to Disney in December I made a fool of myself by not so softly telling my brother that there was Wes and Johanna from MTV's Real World. Instead of people looking at them everyone looked at me. It was funny and we still talk about it. But this trip from the terminal to the ME desk was less exciting. I checked in and asked if our early arrival would affect our luggage and I was told it wouldn't. We got in line for our bus and saw THAT family from the termnal in Providence. Still couldn't tell where they were staying but we prayed it wasn't All Star Sports.

We board the bus and I explain for about the thousandth time to my bf how the bus works. When I wanted to explain it to him before the trip he wanted no part of it but now he wants to know all the details, now that we're in the middle of the process. So we sit on the bus and I explain it to him. We half watch the video they play but we mostly relax. We do ooooh and aaaah when we pass the Gaylord Palms because it really is a cool building when it's all lit up at night. But I realize in reality I'd never stay there, if I'm going to be that close to Disney I might as well be IN Disney.

The bus pulls up to All Star Sports first and I'm still praying that the family with the negative nancy doesn't get off here. Well we're in luck because I think we were the only people to get off! Good bye negative nancy and company, we never saw them again. All the happy CMs were busy with other people so I became a one women line as my boyfriend went off to find the little boys room. I'm not sure if he ever found some. Before I know it I'm chatting with a happy CM who confirms that we're staying Sept. 29 to Oct 7 we have MYW w/free dinning, park hopper and water parks & more. I'm a happy girl, all these options sound like heaven. (I figured if we weren't paying for food why not shell out the cash for a few trips to the water park or what not.) Then she says we have you in a preffered room in the surf building. So we're not being up graded to AKL savannah room but hey we didn't pay for the preferred and got it. More pixie dust for me it seems. At this point my boyfriend manages to scare the living day lights out of me by sneaking up just as I'm about to walk away from the desk. Now I'm trying to explain to him what preferred is in Dis terms. Well when we walk from the main desk out under the giant star, past the main pool, right up to the first surf board building he gets it. Everything we want is right at our front door. (When I stayed with my family we were in the baseball building, we never ventured over to the main pool.)

We get into the room and he explores. Me, I'm a ASSP (watch out how you shorten that!) vet so I've seen the rooms. I call my dad to let him know that we've made it. This is how that conversation goes.

Me-Dad we got to the hotel okay, I just wanted to let you know that.
Dad-Wow thanks I was really worried. (there's a ton of sarcasm in that)
Me-We have a great location, right at the big pool.
Dad-That's nice.
Me-Well let mom know that we're here okay.
Dad-Okay Bye.
Me-Bye.

It's not that my Dad isn't a loving and nice guy. He loves me, in fact he's probably my biggest supporter. But he's a lawyer and not one of those shiney tv type lawyers. He's a guy who takes cases to help out the average person and has to work long hours for no pay. So when he's in the middle of a case(like he was the week I was away) his head isn't always into the conversation. Although my mom told me that he told her I didn't sound too excited when I called. So who knows.

When I got off the phone we took a little journey down to the food court to see if we were in the mood for anything. All I remember is buying our refillable mugs at this point. Oh wait no! We paid for two sandwhiches. Tuna for me and ham & cheese for the boy. We paid for these out of pocket because they were too expensive for a snack but we didn't want to make a meal out of it. The sandwhiches were good enough for two hungry travelers and for some reason I love their fountain cherry coke.

So I had packed boxers and a tank top in case something should happen to our luggage then I would have pjs. My bf didn't want to listen and had none. So I slipped into mine right away and he was stuck waiting for our luggage. Both of us were dying to fabreeze the beds down because we kept hearing about germs in the bed. We waited and waited for our luggage. At about 11:30 I called down to ask if they could tell when to expect it. They said in about an hour or so. I was so tired I curled up in a ball but was so cold my boyfriend put a dinky towel over me. We should have taken pictures. After an hour passed I called back down to find out how that luggage was coming. They told us that they normal don't deliver after a certain time but if we wanted it they'd bring it up to us. So I said bring it on up. They said it'd be a half an hour or so but they'd have it up to us. I made my boyfriend promise that if it came and I had fallen asleep he'd wake me up so I could fabreeze the bed and get under the covers. He promised. Now I wish I could say that the luggage came that night, but it didn't. I wish I could say we got a good night sleep that night, we didn't.

Brandon stayed up waiting for the luggage and when it didn't come he finally got under the covers and fell asleep. I had long since fallen asleep but woke up in the middle of the night to find him under the covers. Germs be damned I was too cold not to crawl under. So if there were tons of germs that got me in the night, well I wasn't aware of it. All I know is we were both tired and still not feeling well so sleep was the priority here.

Coming soon Part 6: In which we get clean clothes, I'm like a kid on Christmas morning and we hit the parks.

I didn't know you could even try for this, I had credits we could have used as well. I guess we were lucky.

We got up and waited when we saw a few people start to stand. It wasn't bad and we got lucky with seats. (Nice use of good on you!)

I'm glad to share our story. We do have one not so great moment on this trip but I figure one moment isn't bad and it was probably bound to happen.

I have to say I'm glad we did it. My bf didn't want to as you probably read but he went for me. I think the Disney mountains are the best mountains around.

Work is always slow! It's the part of my job I love to hate. :)

Las & Jamesmom- Keep reading, hopefully it gets a bit more interesting.

(Of course it's Mickey luggage from disneyshopping.com that was on sale and then 15% off making it only $45 dollars for the set of three. We look stylish with our matching bags, I don't care if others think it's dorky I know we're hip.)
Thrify AND HIP.....without a doubt! :smooth:

:thumbsup2

Part 5: Okay NOW we're in WDW but... will we have clothes to wear this week?
This is NOT a trip to the south of France, girl !!:faint:

;)

And Poppins, I will defer to members of the germ police (on this), but I was a little confused on your desire to "fabreeze the sheets" etc.

1) Does this Fabreeze stuff have disinfectant? (or is just smell good stuff?)
2) And more importantly, TV viewing has me recollecting that the sheets are boiled and cleaned nightly....it's the bedspreads one should be leery of.

Anyways....you're back & posting, so all is good.

Enjoying the read!

Hound <--never thought he'd be discussing "Fabreeze" on a board.

That's me hip AND thrifty.

No, it's not a trip to the south of France but the way I packed I could have taken a trip there.

On the Fabreeze note(am I even spelling that right? does it matter?) step into my slightly off mind for a second and you'll understand my thinking. People kept telling me of sheets that weren't actually taken off and cleaned. Normally it wouldn't even be a thought that crosses my mind. And I know for a fact that bed spreads don't get cleaned as often as the sheets. So now my mind is working over time thinking about germs on the bed. Now why the fabreeze on the sheets? Because the type I use is Antimicrobial Fabric Freshner or some such thing. Will it kill all germs? Probably not but it helps in my head to use this stuff.

Enjoying your report! I've never thought to bring febreeze! Just one more addition to my long list. I learn everyday from the Dis! Can't wait to hear more!

Maybe you were like this on Christmas morning(maybe you didn't celebrate Christmas) but on Christmas morning I was up and at them early just waiting for my siblings to wake up. Truth be told I'm still like this. Eight o'clock is too early to open presents. Who knew? :confused3 That's how I was on our first full day at WDW. Bright and early (ok so not as early as work wake up time) about 8:00 I'm up and just can't fall asleep. Half due to my excitement and the other half due to my bf sawing wood. Oh wait, no, he's just snoring. So I get up and quietly put around the room. Using the bathroom, washing out our refillable mugs... oh but I'm not showering. Now I'm trying to decide if I can manage this... can I call for our bags without waking up my dbf?

I sneak back over and sit on the edge of the bed moving the phone as close to me as I can. Using my cell phone for light I'm trying to find the button to press for the front desk. "What the hell are you doing?" Ignore the use of hell there, he's not angry... that's one of Brandons my girlfriend is so odd and why is she up so early on our vacation playing with the phone hells. His angry ones are usually not directed at me. (Thankfully. They scare the heck out of most people.) I explain it to him and he groans rolling over. He tells me to call because at this point he's not going to get back to sleep.

I will give Disney credit for at least getting our bags quickly to us in the morning. So now we're debating the merits of showering pre-park or on our break. We settle on our break because then we can get to the park earlier. Our chosen park for the morning? MGM. Really I'd decided this months in advance but I suggest it in a way that makes my bf think I'm flying by the seat of my pants. Remember he already things I'm an over planner. Actually I think I made not so subtle hints at going there and he decided on it like he was the first to think of it. Men! (kidding it just seemed right to toss that in there)

We opt for food at the park when we get hungry and we happen to get to the bus stop just as a bus pulled in. Sweet. Now I'm sure you want pictures of our first morning at the park. Us posed some place for the typical MGM pictures on our first day. You're out of luck, this morning we went to the park free as could be. We brought the essential key to the world, debit card and cash. No need to be tied down on our first day. We get to the park and I couldn't be happier, I can almost see myself on Rockin' Roller Coaster or Tower of Terror. I can hear Aerosmith in my head as we hit the gates. I've prepared my bf for the finger scan and so with little to do we're in. Sweet.

Now if you're a season WDW person then you know early morning you hit the good rides and get your fast passes. But my bf... he wanted to see what was being offered to him, he knows Tower of Terror but remember little else. (We won't mention that if he'd watched the planning videos he'd know a little about that. But pish posh I'm not going to bring that up to him, I'm a good girl.)

So we walk around a little and I finally get him down that one stretch of MGM that makes my heart race. We pass little food stands and odd shops, the Beauty and the Beast show calls to those who aren't looking for a rush. But there it is calling to me like a long lost friend... Rockin Roller Coaster. But that will have to wait, dbf wants Tower of Terror and isn't sure he's ready to tame the Aerosmith beast. So be it, I like the feeling of my stomach and body moving different ways. We head up into the old court yard of the hotel, no people in front of us. We make it into the lobby covered by dust and I barely get to take in all the details I love. That's right... we walked right on to the pre-show elevator. You can poo poo on the EMH but I like them, I've good luck with them. We watch the video and as we leave I explain little things about the Twilight Zone that have been worked into the ride. My boyfriend is a mix of excitement and nerves, that's okay so am I.

I've always loved how the CMs get into their roles on this ride. I find here and at the Haunted Mansion they really play the part. Sadly the CM loading it was not to into it the morning. Oh well. So we're loaded up and we are sitting in the front room, my bf is right infront of the loading door. Now this is not a big deal to you probably and it never crosses my mind at the time. But it means the world in a little bit. We slowly make our way up, the little girl taunting me with her song. Some days when it's raining I can hear her in my head. (But that's probably something I should be seeing a doctor about, not the DIS boards.)

Finally our elevator is locked into place, those giant garage door looking doors are almost close enough to touch. It's pitch black and every one in the elevator seems to be holding their breath. All of a sudden the doors open wide and whooooosh all the way to the bottom. We fly back up, the doors open again and whoooosh down we go again. This happens two more times before our elevator turns towards the exit. That's right folks four big drops, four good views out over MGM, the type of ride thrill junkies crave.

My heart rate is coming down and I turn to make sure my boyfriend is still living. You see it was right when the doors opened for the first time I remembered his fear of heights. Not just a fear of little heights but one that makes him hate ladders, they make him nervous. He's done this ride before and liked it but those times he was seated in back, with only one big drop. I'll admit the front is a little more intense, you're right there at the edge it seems. We get off the ride and he isn't so talkative, he's also lacking color. We make our way to where they show the pictures of them torturing us. At the time I just wanted to get my bf out of there but in looking back I'd kill for that picture now. My bf is white as a ghost and gripping the bar infront of him like his life depends on it. And what am I doing? I'm trying to look at him to see if he's ok and I have one hand on his leg letting him know I'm next to him. We skip the gift shop and get out in the Florida sun, he admits(and would tell people when we got home) that he thought he was going to pee himself he was so scared. My poor boy, I didn't think this one out too well did I?

So now I run to fast pass RnRC for myself. (No, I didn't think about using his card to get two so I could go twice in a row. My mind was not with it at this point.) Now I'm desperate to perk him up a little. My mind hits the one thing I know will help... cinnamon rolls. So we head to Starring Rolls Cafe and I grab a roll for us to split and an oj for each of us. If you're a cinnamon roll fan the ones at MGM are to DIE for. Seriously. I like them so much if I were to host my own show on food netword I'd want to have that recipe featured on my show. It seems to be doing the trick and now we're both laughing and the day is starting to look up again. Now I know I have to figure out some rides to ease back into things, no big guys now. What better then to head into the movies, literally. Nope I will not tell you were we headed next, you'll have to wonder.

Part 7: This is more my speed. Although can someone turn down the sun?

I am enjoying your TR! It sounds like you two have had a great start!

I am anxious to hear about your first day at the parks!! Keep it coming! :3dglasses

Here's my tip on the febreeze. Bring either a bottle that's almost done or try to find a smaller bottle to put it in. The bottles it comes in are HUGE. We brought an almost empty bottle so we could just toss it at the end of the trip. That's my tip of the day! :thumbsup2

It sounds like you all had a great time at MGM! I love that park! I just like to walk around and soak it all in. :cloud9: I will have to try those cinnamon rolls out on our next trip.

Did you ever ride RnR?

We were obviously on the same wave length. :)

We did! It's always been my favorite along with Magic Kingdom, although as you'll find out later Animal Kingdom has moved up in the ranks. :cloud9:

Well I'm not quite done with our MGM tour so you'll have to wait. But I do ride it this week. : )

Yep, those who are up at the crack of dawn wanting to rip open presents, grow up to be Dis'ers at "rope drop". ::yes::

Nice try (& great details), but we all knew what was gonna happen. :tiptoe:

Don't tell but I'm never a rope dropper. I'm a five minutes after the rope drop person, it's close enough minus the crowd.

I thought maybe I could pull it off. But maybe some place deep inside me I wanted to wake him up. But shhh

You may be young, but you are wise.

I'm a good Jedi youngling. My father has trained me well. :rotfl:

I'm working on a new update for my few readers but it probably won't be up till tomorrow when I get get my pictures all loaded up here.
