In light of all of the negativity, I thought it might be an interesting to start a thread about how far VMK has come in the two and a half years that it's been in existance. Yes, there are some things that they need to work the kinks out of, and maybe some of the events could be handled better, but really, VMK has gotten better, and the hosts have gotten better at handling everything.

I remember the first maze event they had a couple years ago. We had to click on about two hundred chairs to get to the end of the maze and get our prize. People would get stuck or disconnect, and it would make everyone behind them get stuck because we couldn't get past them. So it makes this maze event sound a lot better.

I also remember when the disconnect problems were a lot worse. Like clockwork, every 30 minutes, I'd lose connection, and have to log back on. Now, I hardly ever disconnect (except if I've been playing mansion for a while).

Who else can remember when things on VMK were more annoying and frustrating?

You gotta admit, it's a whole lot better now :)

I have always laughed when I read the threads (not just here) about how it was so good in the beta days ROFL.

It's obvious those players weren't there in BETA.

VMK has indeed come a far way since then. Do you remember the calendar the way it used to be? No? Thats because we didnt have one! We didnt know when a host game would happen. EGAD! They would just happen, and you wouldn't know about it until you saw it at the top of the guest room list with a line of 500 people. Oh yeah seems small compared to some of the lines right? Well we didnt have VMK Pass. We would just stare at that screen and wait. Oh and since you would DC after a half hour like Rolls pointed out, Guess how many actually made it? ROFL.

I dont think I saw a host for the first 6 months I played the game (totally their loss btw :rotfl: )

Anybody remember those coffin teleporters that would make us crash? VMK also crashed fairly often. Ah the joys of watching the queue count never drop...it was the only way you knew you'd crashed...

My favorite part of back then would have to be the fact that you never knew if there would be a HOST-made game or not. Oh.. those lovely nights when Babs would open up her generator games :D

... and today we freak out when a scheduled game gets off schedule :rotfl2:

Very excellent points.

I remember waiting for the first parade. That was lolworthy if anything is. We lined up, and walked. And walked. Then, if you were super lucky, you got Inferno. And then the first maze event. Lines of over 500....The only way to know if you crashed was to wait, and if the number didn't go down after three minutes, you crashed. And like clockwork, on that first Halloween, every 30 minutes you crashed.

And now people fuss because one event didn't start on time. :rotfl:

going through the maze I saw some pretty neat programming at work. For instance: Start walking and someone or a group of people get in the way, your little "You" walks around them or through the group.

I remember those crashes when you'd sit and stare at the number. I remember I used to crash at 11 a lot which was very frustrating. I would sit there logged on not accepting that I had crashed. The message and eventual exit to the main screen is much better.

Completly agree. Let's see how all you new players would like to try the old VMK.

"The VMK Dark Ages"

I can see it now... (insert dreamy transition here)

In other news today The VMK Company has announced that all new incoming players must spend a minimum of 20 hours on what they are calling "The Other Server". In an interview Yavn said, "We've decided with all the complaining that new players should deal with what those once endured." VMK president has also announced that all of those who do spend the 20 hours will recieve a Virtual badge stating "I survived the dark ages" and a coemberative virtual t-shirt stating they survived the DC monster.

Meanwhile President Jellyrolls announced today...

This has been Disniplaya reporting ;)

Actually I enjoyed the DC game. To be just getting into a host game was a victory even if I had not got a prize. :) :lmao:

That was BRUTAL when we DC'ed. If you were halfway through, you just logged in again if you wanted to play a game. xD

The worst VMK nightmares I can remember were the above mentioned Halloween Maze (First one they did) and the other Halloween. They had a host game giving out infernos if you spun a 4 (I think it was 4). The DC monster was so bad then.I kept trying to gget into the room, and every time get DC before spinning. It was a total bummer. If I made it to the room, I'd see a bunch of people in line ahead ofme vanish, and sure enough I'd DC next.

VMK has come a long way! It's been a long time since I've had the urge to smash my computer in frustration :)

Lets look back...

Did we have VMK Passes? Nope
Could we play longer then a hour without getting DC? Nope
Was there ALOT more people who were rude? Yup
Could we get into a host event if we didn't get it at 20 people or less? Nope, Unless It Was A Good Night.
Did we get keys for every 3rd win on pirates? Nope
Did we have brand new items almost every week? Not Most Of The Time (Not Counting Pin)
Did we have more than 3 lands? Nope
Did we have Tomorrowland Quests? Nope

So why are so many people complaining when we get a free item that is buyable. I say, why not get a free item then spending credits. So I would not complain unless you want to go back to where VMK was 2 years ago. Because trust me, a little lag and a close every once and a while is not close to what VMK was.

Oh Yes!
Remember waving non-stop inside a host game hoping we didn't dc?

I remember those times, now everyone expects to get in a host game, when I used to be thrilled just to enter the room without getting dc! I honestly think I remember wanting to get up and do a dance at my computer because I was able to get in.

Oh the memories! :scared1:

I remember the first Halloween maze event. We didn't have a dozen choices of host rooms either. We had 1. Inside the one room, we had a choice to start either the Easy, Medium or Hard maze. That was it. I think they changed it from 1 room to 3 after a day or two of the event.

I think I made it to the end of the Easy maze once. I don't think I made it through either of the others at all. If I got into the start room, I would get DC'd before finishing the maze. Or, you would get a wait into the next room and get dumped at the doorway (which was blocked) instead of the actual maze area.
Then, after you finally got through the maze, you had to go into the prize room where a Host would write down your name to give you your prize.

Oh, and I remember those were lines up to 700-1000 with the 1 room.

Just a little look back:

I haven't been around long enough to reminisce on the way things were, but I just wanted to say that I thought the maze event this weekend was handled wonderfully. The wait wasn't usually much more than 5 minutes for me. :goodvibes

My first time in a maze room I kept clicking to go forward, and nothing was happening and I was always clicking on a person near me instead. Then I realised that all I had to do was click on my final destination, and my little "Lady" walked the maze all by herself .. I just thought that was soooo cool .. it was almost like she was real and made up her own mind about which way to go. Thanks Disney, VMK is AWESOME! :thumbsup2
