Reality check: Amount you walk at WDW

Just to be clear, while this was a weekend trip, it was never intended to be a whirlwind trip.

We actually wanted to slow down and relax some. We wanted to take our time and enjoy the resorts, and other things WDW has to offer.

And on that day we still went over 11 miles.

No, it isn't like running a 1/2 marathon as the distance is covered over an extended period of time, but to give an idea of normal distances, during normal day I will walk anywhere from 3-5 miles. I more than doubled my normal walking when in WDW. And this was with taking our time and not trying to do everything.

One can only imagine what it is for those who commando tour or who are there trying to as much as they can in the shortest amount of time.

This kills me because although my last trip was shorter I used to visit for 15 days every year and it was pretty much commando the whole time except for meals! No wonder we were tired every night lol!

When your walking it through out the day it doesn't seem like a lot. But once you take the shoes off it just feels great to sit and relax

I have a fitbit as well. 2 things...

First, my most active day was January 12, 2013. On that day I ran the WDW 1/2 Marathon and spent the rest of the day in DHS. My totals: 51,618 steps, 23.77 miles. Yikes!

Second, and this may be different for other folks, but I know for a fact that the fitbit under estimates mileage. I know because one time, after having just completed a different HM, it showed me at 11.75 miles.

I've always felt that while at Disney, we walk somewhere around 10 miles a day....now I know I was being reasonable.

My husband and I got Fitbits a few months ago. I am doing to wear mine to Disney after reading this post! Thanks for the info!

This has always been my big issue with going.

Two years ago, I walked a mile every day for weeks and weeks and I was fine the whole time. This spring, I didn't 'train' and I was sorta ok, but I wore a blister on the bottom of my heel and ouch, that hurt!

How do little kids stand up to the walking? We're taking our grandloves in Feb. ages 9,7 and 6 and this will be a new experience for them, albeit they are active boys.

Last year I wore my BodyMedia fit arm band....the highest day was 32,000 steps, which is 16 miles. That day was MK, DTD and back to MK.

I wore my pedometer last time we were at the world and a averaged 9-11 miles per day. I know now why I can eat what ever I want when I'm there and now gain any weight!

7 grandkids and parents joined us in WDW 1 1/2 years ago and they did great. The two youngest (1 years old at the time) were in a stroller, the other five were 10,9,8,7 and 5 and they all did great. They are very, very active kids so that may be part of it.

I've been wearing a BodyMedia armband for a few months, linked w/ My Fitness Pal app. Interested to see what I burn in a day at WDW on our October trip!
