I recently saw a picture with real ducks in the WL pool. Is this a common thing? I wouldn't think disney would allow ducks in a pool where people swim.

How do you propose they keep them out! :rotfl2:

Maybe they should put a giant screen around the pool. :rotfl:

I don't know how common it is, but they were usually in there during our February, 2005 trip. :donald:

lolz I seen real ducks in the pool of WL, but I have also seen them numerous time at GF. I don't think there really is a way to keep them out. But usually I have seem them in the pools ealrly in the morning or late at night. Actually they could be in the pools during the day as well, but I have never been around during the afternoon. Usually see them when I go out on the balcony in the morning or at night.

Ducks usually stay near bodies of water so if there is a lake or pond near the pool they will sometimes leave the lake and swim in the nearby pool.

If you do not want your children swimming in a pool that ducks swim in then I suggest you stay at the All Stars.
I have never seen any ducks at the All Stars because there are no lakes or ponds on the resort property.

I have seen a few bunnies though.

Have fun at Disney!

ya they frequently swam with us when we were there....very common
we askied the life guard if they cared and they just said not really. they dont bother anyone ...they mainly do it to get across ..i thought it was pretty neat....what the heck it is the "wilderness lodge" after all complete with the animals surroumding you...

I got pretty mad at some kids one day when the ducks were trying to get through....they were splashing and swimming after the ducks antagonizing them....wanted to just slap them silly and see how it felt...they were being really mean to the poor things

I too find this totally gross that they allow those ducks to swim in the pools. I have never seen any lifeguard make any attempt to chase them out of the water!! I just wonder how often they test that water for Ecoli. I just don't find it very sanitary to swim with the ducks!! As my son says--Mom all pools are just large toliets!! :smooth:

As stated yes the ducks get in the pools. No Disney does not not like it,
but it's impossible to keep them out.

And yes the pools near lakes, ponds, etc are more frequently visited by ducks. Which includes WL, Grand Floridian, Polynesian, Contemporary, Yacht and Beach, PORiverside and POFQ, CBR and CSR to name a few.

I know this isn't Disney, but I saw them in the pool at the Scottsdale Princess. I didn't think it was that big of an issue. There is so much chlorine in the water it kills any germs. At the Princess, the pool waitresses actually had a wood ramp they would put down for the ducks to use to get in and out of the pool! :sunny:

We like the ducks in the WL pool. There aren't that many of them, and I'm sure there's enough chemicals in that water to kill anything. I'm sure you're much more likely to catch something icky from the other people than from the ducks.

You probably don't want to swim at TL or BB either because occasionally a snake or two will swim in the lazy river. There at ducks in the pool at SAB, I've seen them at the BW pool. I've seen them in the GF pool. I've seen them in the Polynesian pool. Have you ever been to the beach? There are fish in the lake/Gulf of Mexico/ocean/etc.

Heck, they have giant mice running around the MK if you can believe that!

It really is not very funny.
People can and do get very sick from the bacteria that ducks create.
I live in southeast Michigan and the DNR checks the water of our local lakes and does close down the public beaches when the bacteria levels (From the ducks and geese) gets too high.
It is especially bad when the weather gets warmer.

There is really now way to keep the ducks out of the pool, even if you fence in the pools. With so many of the resorts being near a lake, the ducks are in the lakes, and they can fly right over the fence as well.

I never had any problems with the ducks in the pool both times I was at WL.

I never said that Disney could/should do something to keep the ducks out of the pools.

I have a lakefront home with a large heated inground pool. So I know first hand if ducks want to swim in a pool they will swim in the pool.
Fortunately for us there was only one spring that a pair of ducks "thought they would take up residency in our pool."
It only lasted a few days. Once our pool company finished adjusting the chemicals
and the pool was opened the ducks went back to the lake.

The op had a real concern/fear when she asked about the ducks. Some of the respondents were making fun of her fears and that was why I said it was not funny.
We should never make fun of another person's concerns.
........Steps down from my soapbox now.........
Thanks for the vent.

Have fun at Disney everyone!

I would guess that the pool water is tested at WDW probably several times a day. What's the difference between having a few ducks in a pool that is being maintained and swimming in the ocean or a lake? It's probably a whole lot safer in the pool w/ducks.

Why not? Nature allows people to swim in ponds, lakes, etc, where people swim.

If you trust the Mayo Clinic, this information from their website http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/e-coli/DG00005 shows that e. coli is food poisoning, caught from INGESTING contaminated FOOD, not from swimming in the same water as wildlife:
"Undercooked, contaminated ground beef isn't the only source of E. coli O157:H7 infections. You can also get sick from consuming contaminated:
Alfalfa sprouts
Lettuce
Dry cured sausage
Salami
Undercooked roast beef
Unpasteurized milk, apple juice and apple cider"

As others have stated, we've seen ducks in every resort pool we've visited over the years at one time or another.

The only duck I ever saw in a pool at the All Star Resorts was Donald Duck in the Calypso pool at All Star Music. Take a look at my sig and you will see him also.
Peace :hippie:

Come on folks...lighten up on the duckies !! We swam with them in the WL pool in January and it was great...they did not bother us and we did not bother them. Ducks swim in the ocean and in lakes and ponds so unless you are someone who would never allow your kids to swim in the ocean, lakes or ponds, then I don't see what the problem is.

Why are so many kids born today with allergies to things that us baby boomers and our parents were never allergic too ?? Studies have shown that we are too overprotective of our kids and they never get exposed to the environment and therefore they do not develop the natural immunities that the older generation already has.

So put away the antibacterial hand cleaners, bathroom wipes and the other items we buy to keep our kids "safe" and let them crawl on the floor, get colds, sniffles, ear aches and let them grow up..."healthy" ...pardon me, while a step down off my soapbox.....
