Is it awkward at TS restaurants to sit and read? I have no problem dining alone, but need to have something to read while I sit there. Thanks. :)

Lots of people do it-I know that just sitting there can be kind of awkward. I find it easier to read maps or short things, otherwise you could miss out on someone (like a CM) who might like to talk to you. If they come by and you're engrossed in a book, they may be hesitant to speak to you and disturb you-I've noticed this with servers. What I do that seems to work, for me at least, is I bring a little 69 cent spiral notebook and jot notes during my meal-where I've been, what I've done, what I've eaten, etc. When I get home, I tuck it away with my other mementos and later I find it fun to go back and read. It's also useful for answering questions on these boards-sometimes you forget certain details about your trip you want to share.

I did my first solo last fall, and always had a book with me for meals, line-ups and buses. I had no issue with CM's not talking to me, as I was very willing to put my book down when they approached. Even had some fun conversations about the books I was reading, (romance aka subway readers.)

Any time I am by myself and going to eat, whether at Disney or anywhere else, I always have something to read. If I find some reason not to, then I won't read. Of course I do not focus on the book or magazine, but try to also remain aware of what is going on around me.

I go solo all the time and usually eat dinner at the TS restaurants. If I take something to read, it's usually Disney in nature but not something you can pick up at the parks, like a 1958 copy of "The Art of Animation" or "Magician of the Movies". These seem to be great conversation starters. Sometimes I take a writing tablet to jot down thoughts for a new story I want to write or an idea for a kids book. I just try not to tie up a table for lenghty sessions. There are plenty of places to sit and read throughout the World. That and I LOVE people watching.

Yup, i'm the same way. I don't mind dining alone but have to have something to look at or do while i'm doing it. Even if I'm sitting in the car grabbing a bite on the go, I look through my car to find something to read!
