And what would a Saturday morning be without a morning grump out from someone? I'll take the challenge. Dogs. Like'em, used to have one. Doc isn't too keen on them though Princess is bugging her about getting one. Enter our new neighbors, about 100 yards away. They have four English bulldogs and two Jacqueline Kennedys (anyone guess what those are?). And. They travel in a pack. . .anywhere they want, up and down this hill upon which we live. They aren't truly ferocious, but they are unsettling to a 6-yr old and to those who actually don't like dogs. They will come right up to you and bark, snuffle, hop up and down in their best Yoda imitation. . .oh, and they poop in my yard (do I have your attention now, tink?). You know, if I wanted dog poop in my yard, I'd own a frickin' (sorry frickles) dog. And they're stupid. The leader led a gang bark on my riding mower a couple of months ago. . .while I was mowing. . .and proceeded to get a split lip when he lunged at the spinning blades.
The dogs' latest behavior has finally tipped me into action beyond polite small talk with sad neighbors. They have now taken to coming into our yard, right up to the front stoop at all hours of the day or night (whenever the inconsiderate owners let them roam unattended) barking because they can see in the house. And we have cats. 10 p.m.? Frequently. 1:30 a.m.? Once. 5 a.m.? A few times. So, we got the neighbor's phone number, and we now call them no matter what time it is. Period. "Get your dogs and rein them in. . .PLEASE!" Amazingly, after just a few phone calls, the fence began magically appearing on their property. That's a good sign, because I am but one heart beat away from a BB gun popping pellets in their sessa. . .the dogs not the neighbors, though that thought has crossed my mind. I am a mild-mannered man, a devout advocate of "live and let live" in most instances. But. To paraphrase an old adage: "Your poop ends where my fence begins."
We shall see what we shall see re: the fence. . .and my aim. . .
HOWEVER, it promises to be a decent day here, a long bike ride to ensue later this afternoon, followed by a wine tasting and dinner with friends tonight, and the cruise is only five days away. . .on with the show!
