For all you photography newbies like myself, I highly recommend reading Ansel Adams "The Camera". I'm reading over it for the second time and it is very informative.


Can anyone recommend any other must reads?

Since you are already reading "The Camera" you should go for "The Negative", the best book on exposure I have ever read. When you are ready to print or even to send a file for printing, "The Print" has a lot of good information as well.

"Shooter" by David Hume Kennerly. It chronicles his time as a budding photojournalist, to a PJ in Vietnam, and then his time as the White House photographer for President Ford. I saw him personally as he carried out the last act in that capacity... he was riding in the lead car with Betty Ford in the funeral procession in Grand Rapids.

"The Associated Press Photojournalism Stylebook" - This is the visual counterpart to the famous style guide for news writers.

Light Science and Magic - The best book I've found on lighting. Because of how important lighting is, I think it's a good book even for people that don't use studio lights.

Real World Camera Raw - It's a great book on post processing, whether you use Photoshop ACR or Lightroom.

The Moment It Clicks - Not a great teaching book, but it's still a really cool book.
